I have sold 25 items in the last two months and only 8 have received any feedback (all positive, but still...) Is this just the trend on eBay nowadays? Feedback used to be the best way to keep people in line. Am I just an old fuddy-duddy?

Keep people in line? As in retaliatory feedback~you get a neg, you give a neg no matter what? That is why eBay eliminated negs for buyers. You open an unpaid item dispute and close it to give the buyer a strike, and block those with two or more strikes. That keeps people in line; if they don't open a new account to get around that.
Many buyers just want their widget; some may be discouraged from having their honest feedback removed~so they may not bother anymore.

different seller has different opinion about it, for some sellers feedback is very important, and for some they think feedback is just an opinion, in my opinion feedback is very important that is reason why ebay has feedback policies, you can increase you feedback by using feedbackboost.com , you can increase you positive feed backs and also include some text in your packing list which comply with ebay policies which can also increase your feedback.
some sellers who think feedback is not important they will write that feedback is optional or just opinion, since ebay market started work based on feedback and when buyer go to any store he review the seller rating before buying its represent seller image, so yes feedback is important, so pal do not feel sad or down , if you believe feedback is important just always do to increase it, feedback also change your star which shows how powerful seller and good seller you are.
i wish you more success for your business.

Have purchased a lot of items but will no longer leave feedback as I wonder what good would it do if it is manipulated? As a longtime member and frequent customer, I always found feedback useful when buying to judge reputations & honesty of sellers. In the 16 years I have shopped here, I have found it hard to leave negative unless pushed in to doing so and felt others might be spared negative experiences by giving honest feedback as a heads up and must point out I have been on the seller end too and know how much work is put in to selling! Recently had a rude, dishonest seller manipulate a sale after the item had been paid for, which caused the inability to leave feedback (cancelled sale because they didn't get enough bids + underestimated shipping cost, then told EBay my shipping address was bad!! Same address had in over 13 years!) Upon notification of cancellation, I asked seller why sale was cancelled, they stated to leave them alone it was harrassment and threatened to call EBay! Not intimidated I notified EBay and after looking into it, agreed seller was in the wrong. A few days after contacting EBay, was able to leave an honest feedback, but weeks later the feedback disappeared without any notification. In fact all feedback for all time a member now shows as positive now. Called EBay again to ask why and was told probably because of my bad address and after pointing out it was untrue & never a problem with all I have purchased... they said that they could see that!! Also they could see rude correspondance from seller. Sympathetic but oh well ! So why bother if honest feedback is untrustworthy and unreliable? Unfortunately as of late I have had less than enjoyable transactions on EBay so will sit back and just watch and hope things improve.

I guess I never had these bad experiences with giving or receiving feedback. It's a shame, really, that it went that way. Believe me, there was a time when it was used as incentive for people to do the right thing.

The problem is if you happen to receive 1 negative, it knocks your percent down and makes you look terrible.

The eBay feedback system has been manipulated by both buyers and sellers since the day it was introduced.
Unfortunately, there is no way to set up a feedback system that cannot be manipulated.
Because the more rules that are put in place about what can be posted, when it can be posted, who can post it, and whether it can be posted ... the less it is a feedback system and the more it just becomes a transaction counting system.

General reply:
In my stores I have FB left automatically when payments are received. It costs me nothing, buyers generally like getting FB, and it placates buyers who may be upset at not getting FB. Also, even if there is a problem with the transaction, leaving FB for the buyer does not change anything--actually probably lessens the chance of a problem by a small amount.
As a seller and as a buyer, I really don't care much about feedback, so however someone else does it, it's OK with me.

Sounds about right. I'm at about 30% of sales leaves feedback down from about 50% last couple of years. 100% of the weirdo's, late deliveries, people fishing for freebies, and items damaged in transit leave feedback though. I can attest to that. Ebay know's their feedback is meaningless andthey claim it does not weigh against us, but I have noticed a lull in sales for a week or so after a Negative or case being opened. Might just be my imagination though. I guess no feedback is good feedback at this point. Ebay should leave 5 stars and positive if feedback is not received after say a week. At least make it somewhat relevant.

It makes me feel real good when a buyer responds with feedback indicating they are very pleased. I also enjoy leaving feedback when I am very happy with a seller. I've only left two neutrals for sellers the whole time I've been here. They were deserved to say the least.

Your expectations are WAY too high. People leave feedback (if they leave feedback) either when they receive the item, or when they get the nag email a month later. You don't get paid in feedback, you get paid in money. Did you get paid? Then the customer has given you what they owe you. The transaction is complete.

I've been selling on here since 2005 (14 years) and my feedback score is 1414. So in answer to your inquiry --- YES, I'm not receiving feedback but that's okay by me, no feedback is better than negative or neutral.

Sorry, but I have to take issue with this statement of yours:
Ebay should leave 5 stars and positive if feedback is not received after say a week. At least make it somewhat relevant.
As has been discussed over and over, feedback is not mandatory.
Secondly, as a buyer, sometimes a transaction is not 100% wonderful from my point of view. Not a major issue where I want to leave bad FB or open a case, but some minor flaw; however, I do NOT leave damaging feedback, just leave none at all. If eBay suddenly decides that my experience merited positive FB for that seller, I will suddenly decide to stop buying here.
