So a while ago webinterpret asked me if I want to opt in. We said that we are not interested.
Today we start getting e-mails with "Your eBay listing is confirmed". It seems like webinterpret posted our listing on other ebay websites.
So they managed to post just under 1,000 out of our 5k listings on e-bay. We canceled the listings and revoked webinterpret from Third-party authorizations.
Anyone else got opted in to webinterpret today?

@Anonymous
Thread is a month old, but thanks for the info:
We emailed all sellers a month in advance to notify them that we would be opting them into Webinterpret services. Other than the select sellers we communicated with, we do not opt anyone into this service without authorization.
So these sellers get opted in WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION???? I presume there is an opt OUT in the email, but considering how many report problems with email, I find the auto opt in disturbing.
This is also disturbing:
How transparent is that?.......how to sellers know they have to directly contact Webinterpret? As far as I know, every other 3rd party can be canceled by revoking the authorization. It's not intuitive that a seller would know differently........

Last week, Webinterpret "harrassed" me a few times with email scare tactics.
The title of the email was "Your trade opportunities are limited now. Renew your connection with Webinterpret"
The email goes onto say that they are having problems connecting my ebay account(s) to my Webinterpret account. They are unable to sync it and they gave me a link to "Reconnect Token." The email has exclamation (!) graphics and they use the words "Broken, "Violation of ebay policies", "bad customer service" to try to scare. I'm the OP from that loooooong post someone here linked earlier.
Okay, 1) I contacted Webinterpret via email way back then to basically leave me the heck alone.
2) My concierge agent helped me (even off the clock) end all those thousands of listings manually so I didn't have to do it myself.
3) He also removed any connections with Webinterpret and I ran a double sweep of token removals and made sure it wouldn't reconnect (honestly I forgot how I did this here).
I guess Webinterpret never took the hint and I still have an account, let alone they still believe I am still interested in their services that they send this scare tactic saying my opportunities are "limited." Heck, why not say they are "Restricted"... that's a much scarier word. There's a link on the bottom to "opt-out" and cancel my Webinterpret account.... nice try guys. Been there, done that.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and feedback on this thread.
The promotion, supported by Webintepret’s localization technology, is designed to help merchants grow their businesses worldwide. Only sellers who already export today are selected for this promotion, resulting in listings that are listed locally, language & currency translated where necessary, and made more visible to those buyers to be able to sell more.
Webinterpret has been a trusted partner of eBay's since 2014 and we are excited to work with them and expand our seller's visibility in key export markets the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Australia.
Some notes on the program:
- To reiterate, this promotion is totally FREE to sellers (PayPal will charge +2.5% for the foreign transactions - same as today). Sellers can upgrade their service if they so choose.
- We emailed all sellers a month in advance to notify them that we would be opting them into Webinterpret services. Other than the select sellers we communicated with, we do not opt anyone into this service without authorization.
- Webinterpet tracks available inventory and product listings automatically synchronized across all sites.
- This will NOT create duplicate listings and if for some reason violations occur, an appeal can be requested through normal channels via Customer Service, Concierge, Merchant Support etc.
- To clarify, our commitment to address any potential fees or violations related to this promotion is not an indication that these will occur, simply an acknowledgment that IF an issue arises, we will be happy to address it.
- Revoking third-party authorization may not cancel the service with WebInterpret and may cause the product listings e.g. stock levels not being synchronized. That’s why we would recommend contacting Webintepret’s Customer Care Team. You can do that through here.
- When creating international listings, sellers’ store subscription is taken into account, so you don’t exceed your listing level and incur any additional charges.
Thank you,
The eBay Team
With all due respect, Webinterpret opting someone ('enrolling them') into their program is NOT the customer/client OPTING IN. You are 'drafting' the sellers, not the sellers' volunteering' to enlist. The customer/client does not have a choice (an OPTION to opt-in) - whether or not you have notified them of 'eligibility'.

I wonder if I should block "webinterpret" in my host files as a malicious website just in case I happen to wander across it somewhere on the internet?

Considering the mixed reports about them - good, bad and indifferent - I'm afraid that has to be up to the individual. Personally, I know I would, and I would check PayPal to see if there is a cookie or reference to them there, in the settings, as well.
