All this text I didn't write!!!

Please see my listing:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-D2X-12-4MP-Digital-Camera-Body-Strap-body-cap-charger-battery-manual/...

There is a gigundous product description (obviously written by Nikon) that appears above what I personally wrote. I doubt anyone would scroll down to what I wrote. How did I get that, and how do GET RID OF IT?

If I try to revise my page, it looks as I intended it to be. And if I preview it it looks right. But if I go to my listing all that stuff is still there. Then my own write-up, then a whole bunch of reviews of the Nikon D2x by people who, it seems bought new ones!

What the HECK is going on?????

Re: All this text I didn't write!!!

yeah I figured that when wrote the post, then seen further down that they got it off. I would had kept the UPC though and just removed the prefilled info ebay puts in as ebay has a new(er) policy that if item has a UPC code and seller doesn't put it in they can hold you to a INAD mark. The other reason I typically remove the prefill info is because often the ebay prefilled info has errors in them as well.

Re: All this text I didn't write!!!

I don't list many items that are in the Catalog or have UPC's  but when I do I never tick the box to include the pre-filled info or images.

I did a couple of times only to find the matches while close were not exact and buyers were not pleased.

Just a few days ago on this board, a seller of a used computer used the pre-filled info which stated the AC Adapter was included. In the sellers own description they indicated the AC Adapter was NOT included.

End result, not as described claim.

Most casual sellers on ebay do not bother to write any description at all or if they do it's usually just "Product X, condition is used."

They didn't even write that; it's generated automatically if they can't be bothered to put in a real description. The system generates it from the listing title and the New or Used designation chosen by the seller.

Hi nuclearomen.  Thanks for your help.

You wrote: "But when you enter UPC and ebay has a record of that UPC in their catalog at top of the create listing it will show a box you check to include that info or not, simply uncheck the box." But I can't find that. Could you post a screen shot?

Below is what I see. As I said, I deleted was had been in the box, and that worked. But I see no checkmark. What I'm showing in in the Revise dialog box. Are you talking about somewhere else?

Re: All this text I didn't write!!!

But (sometimes) even when you uncheck the box to remove it, ebay will add it back in (because they know better than you what you're selling).

never an issue here, but I have heard this before from others. The main thing is that that pre-filled info is very very sketchy, if they do add it, it's best to rewrite everything in the description field as would normally. UPC info is generally not very accurate, especially if manufacturer has various models.
