Adding and Removing Items From a Markdown Sale

So I run a 20% Markdown Sale on some of my items.  Sometimes I have to remove items from the sale to change their price, due to availability or demand.  I often want to add these items back to the Markdown Sale after I adjust the price.

I have noticed that for some items, I can immediately reintroduce them back into the existing 20% sale.  But other items that I want to add back in are grayed out (the checkbox is grayed out), and I cannot add them back into the sale (until I actually end the sale, and start a new one).

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to items that are allowed back in, or those that are grayed out.  Does anyone know why this is happening?

When I am running a promotional sale if I change the price "higher" than the sale, it eliminates it from the sale, if it was already "in" the sale.  I can lower the price, revise the listing, etc and it stays in that sale.  

Used to be able to add it back thru the drop-down menu.  Cannot now for some reason.  Even tried extending the sale timeline and it still did not - you are correct, it is frustrating to start another sale to re-capture those modified. 

At least when you do, you can sort by those not currently in a promotion to ease to do it.  Just be sure to wait until a promotion launches if you have recently started one to be sure you capture a listing only once.
