ALL CAPS or normal

At first glance of listings, does an all caps title seem more engaging than normal titles?

Re: ALL CAPS or normal

I have seen both caps and small titles used. I would assume one would capitalize to either make the listing stand out, words on importance (they think to catch the viewer's eye) or they are just too lazy.

If someone sends me something in all caps it would seem they are screaming at me, but there are some that may not know any better or laziness to select the correct words to capitalize.

All Caps run together to the eye......and the universal  advice is not to use them in a title (or description)....... Caps for one or two words can make them stand out in a title.

I've read that Google doesn't like all caps.

Not to me. That seems like a lazy seller who does does not understand the internet.

Re: ALL CAPS or normal

Capitalizing the first character in each word looks OK for a title.  Not all caps for every word.

If you need to have "Used" in the title, I would put it as the last word in the title. The first 3 to 5 words in the title are the most valuable of real estate to present to a search engine.

No.

It is a well-established fact, known for decades, after extensive testing with persons of all levels of visual acuity, that text in all capitals is harder to read than text in upper and lower case.  (And the lower the visual acuity, the harder it becomes to read all caps, by the way.)

You don't have to take my word for that.  You can research it for yourself and find abundant citations of the evidence.

Re: ALL CAPS or normal

studies show lowercase is better...but reality says it doesn't matter if what you are selling isn't something someone wants.  Either way, if you have an item people are looking for, or an item that is rare and highly sought after, caps, no caps, both doesn't matter to much.  I mean who has not purchased an item because it is in all caps?

NO. It shows desperation on the seller's part.

Only if you wish to chase away shoppers aka potential buyers.   Hard to read IMO -  caps eat up white space which make reading harder.

I have always thought that too, but when I search for an item it seems like the new eBay search tool focuses on key words they deem most important.  Kind of annoying.

It doesn't really matter. If someone wants something, I don't think they will move on from a listing just because the seller with the best product, price, condition, shipping cost, and great feedback uses CAPS.

I use CAPS so my listing stands out and for those shoppers who might be a little visually impaired, using a tablet, or a cell phone can read my listing easily. I will also change the colors of certain key words / information to make sure they stand out in my listings.

Yes, that's a good way to put it.

A word in all caps (SHAPE) is essentially a rectangle, with the top and bottom edges parallel, making it low contrast; so low, for many words, that the brain actually does have to consider each letter.

A word in upper and lower case (shape) has non-parallel edges, with higher contrast.

It's variable, of course, depending upon the reader and the specific text he is reading, but all caps can take anywhere from 10% to as much as 35% more time to read.   Errors in reading are concomitant.

But this is interesting:  Habit accounts for some of the readability issue with all capitals versus upper and lower case.  Those who, for whatever reason, have spent years reading all caps do so faster and with fewer errors than the average reader.  Likewise, younger people find all caps more readable than older people do, because younger people have been exposed to it more as all caps has become more common in advertising, logos, on social media, in texting, etc.

The worst stuff to try to read is what I call the Kuntry Kute Krap style, which sellers on eBay insist on using for their "primitives" -- with that sTupId  miX Of  UPpeR  aNd  loWeR  CAsE  aLONg  witH  SOmǝ  LǝTTeЯs  BAcꓘwArds.

I think it does matter.   I don't think they make it easier to read at all.  I have a very difficult time making out words that are in all caps.  When I search items, I actually skip those titles if others are available.   I will use them for a few words instead of punctuation.

Re: ALL CAPS or normal

eBay Title Requirements  says don't use all-caps unless it is part of the product's name.
