Dang. I don't believe it.

We're actually getting a break on shipping?

As Dr Venkman said in the first (and best) Ghostbusters:

"Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!"

Great news!

Re: A bit of good news if you use ebay labels

We'll probably have to slog through and make up our own little charts.

Here are a few data points to get started, with comparisons to the prices shown in Notice 123 for Commercial Priority Mail (i.e., what non-TRS have been paying for eBay labels). Which raises the question: Will TRS get 3% off of these new bargain eBay Priority prices? Probably not.

2 pounds to Zone 1&2:

New eBay rate: $7.53

Notice 123 rate: $8.27

5 pounds to Zone 4:

New eBay rate: $9.15

Notice 123: $10.07

10 pounds to Zone 4:

New eBay rate: $11.98

Notice 123: $13.17

Those are some remarkable savings.

Even more remarkable is the comparison to the price for Parcel Select Ground for those 3 weight/zone combinations:  $7.53 (yes, identical), $9.16 (yes, PS is a penny MORE), and $12.19 (PS is 21 cents more).

But of course all that will change in a few weeks when new USPS rates go into effect on January 22; Parcel Select Ground rates are not scheduled to increase.

I appreciate the thought, but anything outside my state (California) is zone 5 at least.  And...the further away I have to send a package, the more money eBay makes.   Which has always made me wonder if eBay Search shows my items to California buyers very often.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble but I am already getting exactly the same price from Pirateship that you are showing as the "new" rate. So the only conclusion is that eBay is trying to claim credit for something the post office did on its own.

Or eBay negotiated the same terms as Pirateship.

Or not.

I have a 2 pound package going today from 89011 to 85653 which the rate chart shows as being zone 4.

eBay is quoting me $8.27. Pirateship is quoting $8.05 as regular priority mail (i.e. NOT cubic pricing). I used 10x10x10 as the size.

But the package is actually a 7x7x6 post office supplied box which is 2/10ths of a cubic foot. In that case  Pirateship will only charge me $7.90 for that one. eBay is still at $8.27.

The eBay shipping calculator is showing me $8.05 for that weight and those ZIP Codes.

We seem to be using different calculators.

Speaking of Pirateship and the "savings."

I compared my last three sales....I think that was my ONLY sales I've had in the last few weeks with the ebay shipping label price and Pirateship and the price came out exactly the same. Granted, all three were shipped in Regional Rate A boxes so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

A Regional Rate A box is just a hair over 2/10ths of a cubic foot.  If you had a regular box that  was the same size then Priateship cubic pricing is even cheaper. Now admittedly it us only a bit less than a dollar cheaper but if you send out 100 boxes the savings suddenly becomes in the $80.00 range. That is certainly note worthy.

And if you had one that was just 1/2" smaller on one side to get it under the 2/10ths the savings is even bigger. And cubic pricing goes by size not weight the same as the Regional and Flat Rate boxes. The big advantage is that you can use any box, you are not limited to only what the P O supplies. That should open even more shipping savings for items that are small and heavy but do not fit the P O boxes.

Re: A bit of good news if you use ebay labels

Parcel Select Ground is not meant to be cheaper. It is necessary for people shipping perfume and certain other liquids that are not permitted on airplanes. Which is why we can't (should not, people do cheat) sell perfume etc. for delivery to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or any over seas destination, there is no ground transport.

Re: A bit of good news if you use ebay labels

I live in Miami and offer free shipping, historically calculating fixed price to include a reasonable charge for First Class Package. That USED to be about $3.50 for up to 4 ounces. USPS has gone wacko with distant shipping charges and their surprise "Holiday" "Temporary" surcharge which will be permanent it seems come January. I am now paying WAY more to ship to the west coast, Alaska and Hawaii (almost $5 sometimes for First Class Package). More than a dollar extra from pre "Holiday" rates. People who rah rah the USPS really do not have a clue.

Re: A bit of good news if you use ebay labels

There is also a USPS approved way to save even more if you ship using small priority mail boxes, either flat rate or the VHS tape size box. I cannot tell you but you can ask at your local post office. Happy Hoidays.
