Yes, it would have been useful to have  a longer time for discussion .  It seems like  the Community discussion boards are handled differently  every time there's a seller update: format, duration, participation, etc.

In hindsight, the Announcement board comment "See all updates here and join the conversation here to ask the eBay team questions between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Pacific about the updates" apparently was telling us that's all the time that there would be to discuss the changes.

Gee, whiz!  You mean they stayed open that long.  Wow, must be a new record.

I wonder if they get overtime for that?

Anybody seen that darn sarcasm font lately?

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

LOL usually they just leave but they don't lock the boards for days or even weeks...

Does that mean we can have the convo's over HERE since we can't have them over there?

Fellow sellers were actually helping each other more than the Reps were anyway and I had a boatload more questions about the stupid Managed payments things or the fees that go with it.

I hate photobucket right now... PS Answers given years ago may or may not be current now, please check with current posters to the boards to see if the information is still relevant.

Well, one of the posts from an ebay person said that the update boards were closed and that if someone wanted to continue discussions to use the sellers forum.  To my mind, that would mean 'yes'.

As an internet merchant I feel like I really do try to do my best to stay on top of these types of announcements regarding important changes that may or may not have a meaningful impact in how I conduct my buisness on 3rd party marketplaces such as eBay.

But it takes time for me to read through the new policy updates and then a lot more time to digest those updates, and then still some more time to try and figure out how those changes might potentially affect the way that I conduct my business here on eBay.

How long did it take eBay to prepare this recent update? Days, weeks, months?

And we (the sellers) get a miserly 7 hours to engage eBay employees regarding all of these important changes.  This isn't a discussion on Twitter this is business.

I took the 5 question survey regarding this recent update and this is what I shared with them.

Question #3.

Are Seller Updates useful in how you manage your eBay business?

"Yes and no. The dedicated 2020 Spring Update community discussion forum has been locked after only 7 hours. As an eBay seller I feel that those discussion boards need to stay open and manned by eBay employees for a minimum of 72 hours after a regular policy update announcement, so that sellers have the time and the opportunity to digest the newly announced changes, and then engage eBay employees as well as fellow eBay sellers to better have an understanding of what lies ahead. 7 hours feels miserly."

I do not have any doubts that they went somewhere after work and are having a few drinks to congratulate themselves for the fine job that they have done here today engaging the seller community.

"Mission accomplished!" Fist bumps all around.

eBay censoring my critical posts yet again. Does it surprise anyone they hide from open discussions?

Im not sure how much more "discussion" is needed.

Nothing will be gained by sellers discussing the changes.

It is what it is and nothing sellers say or discuss will change it.

Sellers were supposed to be "partners" but it appears there is no partnership.

Decisions were made and dropped on sellers, then sellers were given 8 hours to question but it was not really a discussion.

More a this is how it is....

Wow, ebay, that was darn rude to lock those threads with only 7 hours. People have a life outside of ebay you know. I was away most of the afternoon visiting my dying mother.

This was the shortest ever time allowed for discussion of the Seller Updates and actually the fewest ever responses by Ebay moderators who as usual gave nothing but the canned responses.  It seems that Ebay just cannot handle any criticism of their site anymore, especially when it comes to not keeping their word about any promises they make.  Jordan Sweetham making commitments was once again nothing but lip service by another in a long line of executive mouthpieces who are nothing more than yes men doing anything they are told for a paycheck.

I can't wait to see the responses that end up being made on other sites about this fiasco of an update which is going against industry standards on returns.  Ebay has become so desperate to try and attract buyers any way possible so when they sell the site it looks a little better and they can get more money for it.  Stating they are utilizing the proceeds from the Stub Hub Sale to increase the amount of Ebay stock they can repurchase is nothing but a smoke screen to try and increase the stock value so the executives and BOD members can maximize their personal returns when the company is sold and they can sell all of their stock.  They have now had an interim CEO for almost 5 months who has no experience as a CEO but was the CFO and another perfect yes man to put in place until they can execute their plan, otherwise we would have heard a lot more and i mean a lot more about them interviewing and hiring a new CEO to lead them going forward by this time.  Large corporations do not leave that important of a position unfilled for this long unless they have other plans, like selling their company.  We already know they have had at least one offer and it sounds like they want to take this route but with a better offer so they all make out better personally, especially Elliott whose reason for that open letter to the BOD has become much more clear now.

Yeah it feels like the eBay is not really interested in having a meaningful ongoing discussion with sellers regarding the new changes but felt obligated to produce a token discussion board and give it a half days worth of effort because that is how it has been done in the past. And that would confuse us even more than we already are.

I'm not so sure that it is about 'discussions' needed.  There are many who speak a different 'everyday-speak' around the country.  Not everybody may understand what is presented in the many pages that may take someone more time to get through than just 10-600 minutes - if they can get to it today (some people have lives, too).

It would seem reasonable that there should be enough time for users to be able to, at least, ask questions.  Even if ebay doesn't - or won't - answer them.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

Re: 2020 Spring Seller Update Community Discussions LOCKED AFTER ONLY 7 HOURS

I am sorry to hear about your mother.

I feel sorry for the sellers who have regular day jobs and are just now getting home to find out that their eBay buisness might be changing significantly real soon with no real opportunity to ask their questions and to then have those questions answered by a real live eBay employee.

Sorry boys and girls you were to slow. Maybe next time.

Absolutely ludicrous!  I had posted, there was a reply I wanted to reply to & by the time I got back home from errands & appts, they were locked.  What's the point of even having them?
