Can someone help me identify this rock. I purchased it several years ago at the sale of an old log cabin and I found it at the bottom of a box. I'm not looking to strike it rich I'd just to know what it is. I'm thinking of incorporating it into my garden next spring.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Many thanks

Has it been sliced? or is that the natural formation? I can't tell if the lines on the surface are saw marks or a crystalization pattern.

On the surface it is raw. A vertical cut was made through each piece, I will assume to make it smaller

Scratch it with a knife, does it leave a scratch mark or no?

Yeah I'm wondering if there are two kinds of rock in the first pic for example. Looks like chert on the right which is very hard and shouldn't scratch, but maybe a different rock on the left, as you say possibly gypsum. But scratch both.

Looks like Gypsum or Selenite.
