I have some Amazonite I've found on hikes - what I'm wondering about is whether there are different terms to describe it when it's part of a rock, or is a "clean" piece not surrounded by rock. Well, if this doensn't make sense, perhaps the photos will help.
Like, what are this formations called:
As opposed to Amazonite found this way, surrounded by the white rock:
Here's hoping someone will come along with some info.
TIA

I would describe the first picture as an amozonite chunk, the second as amaozonite in quartz or in matrix (white rock looks like milky quartz, but it is hard to tell from the photo).

Hey oldguy,
Thanks for the info. Okay ... it's a chunk? I thought maybe there was a fancier name. 🙂
I'll try and post better photos of the second rock.
Nice to know someone is around. I just found a question about a rock under "toys and hobbies" - I suggested they ask a mod to move it to this board. I see a lot of rock questions in the jewelry boards - it's too bad this is so obscure and hard to find for some.

There is probably a fancier name...you could call it a specimen....and call the other a specimen with quartz or matrix.
