return requested for damaged item received

Should I request the buyer to file a damaged goods claim with USPS before I issue a full refund?  I have had this situation in the past I tried to file the claim and the Post Office wanted me to take the item to the Post Office so they could inspect the package before resolving the claim.  Didn't the buyer get 50.00 worth of insurance with the purchase of the shipping label?  What do you suggest that I do? In the past I have just issued a full refund and advised buyer they didn't have to return the item bak to me.

Insurance is you the sellers problem, not the purchaser.

That said some will aid in the process.

Some wont and they do not have to..

How much was this item??

Such is they way you deal with:

One:  item cost to you originally,

Two: shipping cost to return to you.

Is it worth returning to you and the cost of such.

Thank you.. Believe it or not I felt stupid in just issuing the refund.  I'm glad you answered my question.  Thank you again.

-Both you and Buyer could open an insurance claim.

-Let Buyer start and promise you will refund in full and kindly ask for Buyer's cooperation.

-Let Buyer know the process and ask them to keep all the packaging in whole.

...

Pay the full refund and wait for USPS to respond. It's going to be few weeks time. My last insurance claim took three weeks. You can follow the process by using the confirmation number. Your local Postmaster could help you a lot.

When Buyer files the claim and you refund, obviously, Buyer is in possession of the item. You have some safety net.

Why would a seller want to put the insurance claim in the hands of the buyer?

That would be a mistake.

The seller should be filing an insurance claim themselves to ensure it's handled correctly.
