damaged package

I had a package damaged when I shipped UPS. I had insurance. I refunded as the buyer said they would help anyway they could.  At first I did not want to refund right away till I had done the insurance claim but they threatened to get e bay involved and I thought since they said they would help I would refund. At first they were helpful, sent pictures etc but when UPS tried to pickup no one was home so UPS agreed to do it with just pictures if possible. However when I needed a clear picture of the label the buyer fell off the face of the earth. Wont answer me any more and now im out the product and the shipping. About 400 total. Doesnt seem right.

Re: damaged package

Well, dang. Yes, it's always best just to approve a Return if the buyer opens one. That way, you'll only have to refund upon the item's return. Sorry you had a scrub buyer that you refunded too quickly. Hang in there.

Re: damaged package

I'm sorry you lost your money, but the buyer didn't do anything wrong here. Perhaps they are busy with their own life's issues and are tired of responding to you. Now that they have been refunded there is nothing in this for them. Insurance for items damaged in shipping is for the sender, not the recipient. They may not have room to store the box and item around until carrier decides to reimburse. I don't know, I'm just throwing out scenarios. Maybe next time this happens you should just follow the protocols for a return. Best of luck to you....

Re: damaged package

Never trust a buyer to do anything short of what eBay will require them to do, expensive lesson with a dishonest buyer.  They likely wanted the refund without a case so they could keep the item if it was even damaged at all.  Insurance is tricky and imo often useless, Everytime I needed to use it the buyer wouldn't cooperate and eBay doesn't require them too.  The buyer knows they shouldn't keep the item you refunded them for (after agreeing to help you with insurance) but they know eBay nor you can do anything.  In the future only refund after you have the item, the buyer getting eBay involved would have been a good thing.
