I won an auction for toy cars. The seller's pictures weren't close up and I didn't think much of it at the time thinking her kids were having some fun and displayed them like that. But now that I've received the items I understand why there wouldn't be close up pictures.
It's listed as Used and description
cars die cast toys. Selling as lot some in better condition than others 47 vehicles total. Money goes to children |
Some of the toys are rusted, mud or dirt caked on the bottom of them, and battery operated ones have rust on the metal contacts and old, rusty batteries still in them. I can't/wouldn't let my kids play with them in such condition so it feels like a bust for me. I've bought used toy cars so I expected broken pieces and chipped paint but the condition here is beyond being played with.
Would you guys return?

yes i would return for the reason 'damaged' or 'not as described' bc of the rust and dangerous batteries that could have exploded
FYI- eBay has cautioned against purchasing from a listing that has blurry, bad, etc photos
Also stay away from such vague descriptions, or at least ask the seller for more clarity
Hopefully, lesson learned

Definitely.

If the item is not as described, and you seem pretty liberal in what you would accept, you should ask to return.

Well when you see poor photos and things like " lot some in better condition than others " that should be a red flag.
The condition you describe can and should be expected in used toys. However, the seller should point that out in the listing. Yes a not as described case is in order.

Are you not aware of the eBay MBG? There is a link on every eBay page. EBay goes out of their way to protect buyers but you have to do your part. Have fun buying on eBay!

Thanks all for the tips.
I wasn't sure if the not as described would be the right one since the seller didn't really describe the items. I was thinking along the lines of doesn't work or defective or arrived damaged (I was shocked when I opened the box and all the toys were just tossed in there.)
Usually I look at auctions that only have clear pictures of the items but I let my guard down on this one. Because she said the money goes to her children I just assumed she was letting the children take charge with the posting of the auction (like a learning experience) so I didn't bother to do follow up questions. Lesson definitely learned.
I didn't think someone would sell something that's obviously rusted and not mention it in their description. I'm not really experienced in the condition for toys on eBay - I see it's just new and used. I've mainly sold video games or electronics which have more choices to describe the condition.
