Returns on Cosmetics?

I keep getting these notifications from eBay on how to "improve my listings" and become a "Top Rated Plus" seller, by allowing for free returns. I checked the categories that don't need to have 30 day free returns, knowing Health and Beauty would *OBVIOUSLY* be one of them, and to my horror, it's not.

As stated on all my listings, I do not accept returns due to the nature of the products I sell. Why eBay would allow someone to return an eye cream or lipstick is beyond me; and I know as a buyer, I wouldn't want to purchase an item that had been returned. There's a reason stores like Sephora and Ulta throw any returned items away. I'm not a major national retailer, and I can't take that kind of loss. Who knows what buyers do with these items once they're in their possession? Did they try them out and decide "not what I want"? Did they taint them in any number of a myriad of ways? Especially adding COVID in the mix? I'm not going to allow for free returns, not now or ever. I would think eBay would appreciate this, but I guess not. If anyone could give me any insight to this way of thinking, I'd love to hear it.

The bigger question would be is why would someone sell cosmetics on a site that lets buyers return them.

This makes zero sense on so many levels lol.

Like I said, Ulta and Sephora, the two largest cosmetics and skincare retailers in the US, allow for returns. I still shop on those websites?

I don't have the kinds of resources they do, however, and can't just scrap any and everything that buyers want to return.

Sure you shop on the websites that allow for returns! But like you recognize... you don't have their resources.

I gotta go with @tdumonde2014 on this one. The eBay MBG says that you at least allow refunds, even if not Returns.

Personally, I use 30-Day (buyer pays) Returns... but my returns will resell. Good luck to you.

I also state I offer refunds if I have misrepresented or made any mistakes in my listings, I have no problem issuing refunds in that case, I've done it before.

Refunds and returns are two completely different things, however, and it says very clearly to offer "30 day free RETURNS."

I guess I should also throw in that all my listings are free shipping.
