Returns and closed returns

I purchased a motorola cellphone on ebay which has an ebay 30day money back guarantee. (https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy/ebay-money-back-guarantee-policy...)

I had difficulty powering it off holding two buttons simultaneously. So I started a return. But then I went through the manual and found that I can program the buttons and I was able program it to power-off with holding just one button alone. So I closed the return.

Soon after I discovered that, contrary to whet the seller mentioned in the posting, that he phone is incompatible with the carriers he mentioned.

So, I wanted to return the item. Now there is no return this item under "more actions".

0. When I contacted eBay through its chat (no phone numbers, emails are available to contact ebay), the bot said it would transfer me to agent. Then I was asked to enter my phone number so that an agent can call, say within 5 mins etc.  When I do, nothing happens.  This seems to be a bug.

1. Where in the "eBay Money Back Guarantee policy" does it say that a closed return can not be reopened.?

2. What happens, as in my case, one discovers within the 30 day period , other issues such as "item not as described" etc., for which the buyer is eligible return for a full refund?

Thanks,                               UscRavi

Re: Returns and closed returns

Well you know what they say:  Want in one hand, spit in the other and see which one gets full first.

It always amazes me how many people buy here and even sell here yet fail to READ the policies that will protect them if things go sideways. SIGH

You have been told multiple times, by multiple members, what your options for a refund are at this point.

You asked "where is that stated in the MBG policy?" That location was provided to you.

You had a return, you closed it. THE END. You get one bite of the apple.

That is one of the FEW protections for sellers..

You ask if eBay's directors reading this, NO they are not. No eBay employee is monitoring the board.

Your prediction of the "loss of eBay" is not new. People have been decrying the closing of eBay for a LONG time yet here it is..

I don't know how many people are going to have to explain it for you to understand.

Nobody here wants to see you lose your money and be stuck with an unusable phone but the options you have been given is all there is.

If you want to contact eBay directly and complain or request policy changes; this is where you do that:

eBay's headquarters  2025 Hamilton Ave. San Jose, CA 95125.

Best of Luck.

If you go through the entire posting, you will see that I have ALREADY accepted and even marked it as a "Best answer" the response by "aproudparent2010".

I not disagreeing with EXISTING policies on this transaction.

What I am trying to do here is to save eBay from extinction by pointing out its shortcomings in its ability to be agile and respond to market forces. Loss of $100 is not going to break my bank nor  $10 loss of revenue break that of eBay's.

The whole point of this posting is that, in this case, we ( seller and buyer) have resolved the dispute ourselves and eBay should honor it, and among other things such as customer service comparable to competitors etc.

As a member of the eBay community, the market place and of the society we live in, we have an obligation to voice  our concerns. May be others will join me or may be not. But unless it is pointed out to the community we will never know how others are thinking.

On another note, institutional investors do read such posts to gauge the health of their investments. In fact most of them have compute infrastructure to scan the internet in real time for key words relating to their positions. However,  few positive or negative posts is unlikely to sway their positions.

Amazon went public on May 15, 1997 at $18/share with a market cap of ~$1.8Trillion now.

eBay went public on Sep 21, 1998 at $18/share with a market cap of ~$31Billion now.

Do the math.

Walmart, Apple, Best buy etc., have responded reasonably well to threats posed by online retailers like Amazon, though they have plenty of catching up to do to unseat Amazon as the largest online retailer.

Can eBay do it?

Not at this level of competitive spirit!

Re: Returns and closed returns

Someone by name "Randall M" responded to my BBB complaint on 4/21.  I responded the same day.

So far, no resolution.

Still,  my complaint, among others,

"Tried to contact ebay chat for help and was asked to enter my phone number, so an agent can call. When I did and clicked on "Continue", nothing happens. "

remains unfixed as of now.

Re: Returns and closed returns

So far, no useful response from eBay for this issue and my complaint at BBB.

Just to test QOS, I looked for two items (that I wanted to purchase) on Amazon & eBay.

The items were available on on all three with a slightly different prices and S&H.

When I tried to checkout on Amazon, I ran into difficulties. I called the Amazon support number, (which one can lookup on Amazon website or just an online search will get you the number.) and was greeted by a polite CS Rep with in one minutes. She was able to resolve my issue within 20minutes and I ordered them on Amazon. Both items totaled more than $39 so the S&H was free on Amazon.

eBay has no phone listed anywhere on its site or online search yields no results. Chat route does not work either as I mentioned.

One of the items is available on the manufacturer's (Troy-Bilt) web site at a slightly lower price, but when S&H is added, prices on all three were only slightly different. When I called the manufacturer for the part number, the CS Rep was able to help me find the part number and the response was also quick.
