Purchased a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th gen "Open Box" and described by the seller as "excellent condition" from ebay for 150 bucks, was a steal price wise. Item arrived and it was not a 4th gen but a 2nd gen and it was beat to pulp with wear + smudgy and fingerprints everywhere. I spoke to him and he agreed on a return + refund.
Never returned anything from eBay; I didn't know, and I went to USPS to ship it back without knowing eBay provides you with a label themselves. Ok, I don't need your label. I already have it shipped out, and it arrives tomorrow. It doesn't let me update anything unless I print out eBay's tracking label. Any idea what I can do?

If you did not open a formal return request on eBay, then eBay has no idea that you shipped the item back.
And of course the seller is under no obligation to refund your money.
"I spoke to him and he agreed on a return + refund"
Did you contact seller via eBay messaging?
If so, you may / may be able to take this up with eBay should the seller not refund you, since eBay will have a record of your exchange with the seller. (You can contact eBay at Facebook/ebay and speak to someone there.)
Fingers crossed that the seller is honest and has some integrity and a moral compass.
At this point all you can really do is message the seller to let him know the item is on its way.

I did open a return request, The issue is I didn't print the return shipping label; I simply paid and shipped it back. I only found out about it way after it got shipped. Oh well that freaking sucks. Oh well, thank you for clearing it up

I am having the same exact issue. In 24 years, have never had to do a return. Contacted seller and sent it back on my own only to learn that he put the street address of a post office branch as his return address (no PO box listed). It sat there at the PO for 10 days. I have opened a dispute with USPS and at present I'm trying to get it returned to me. Seller has been very ugly about it. Hopefully your seller is decent and honest.
