A few hours ago, I received a tiny refund for a purchase I made back in May 2023. Here's the thing - I did not request for a refund. The refund is less than a dollar. Should I be suspicious of something here? Should I contact the seller? It feels completely out of left field.

my credit card statements are showing over a hundred refunds for 0.03 cents
some are 0.05 and some as little 0.01 cents, don't know why, how would I find
out,I guess I'll have to contact Ebay customer service.

@tamiam42, @angelwith9mm, @mickie586,
As has already been explained, if you live in Michigan, these refunds are for sales tax that eBay overcharged you for, earlier these year, because Michigan unexpectedly changed the sales tax law, and no longer charges sales tax on the shipping charges.

I called ebay about 3 of these little refunds. They INSISTED that they were being made by the sellers. I contacted the sellers and they DID NOT refund the money. One said they would check into it and the other two just told me not to worry about it. Im going to contact paypal next because they have already collected the fees and are losing money I believe. Refunds can be any amount. I am getting them showing in my paypal account as credits as well. I think ebay has some kind of system glytch and nobody there wants to pass it on or be concerned about it.

I also live in Michigan and have been receiving these small refunds for a couple of months now. The sales tax being charged on shipping makes sense. I’m going with that!!

I have received several of these lately, as well. I also live in Michigan. I’m sure the change in the way Michigan is taxing shipping is the answer!
thanks!

I just received two refunds for purchases in May 2023. I also live in Michigan. The tax for shipping theory makes sense. Thanks for connecting the dots for us as it did seem like some kind of fishing scam.

I received a refund. It included the order number and I was able to find the order it referred to. I also am in Michigan as someone mentioned. Interesting.

This started happening to me too. I contacted the seller with no response. And there's of course no way to actually speak to a person through eBay to see what is going in because the automated system is terrible

Thanks for the explanation. It makes sense. I am a Michigan buyer and my bank account shows 3 refunds from Pay Pal in the last week ranging from $.43 to $1.04. I would be nice to have received some explanation from eBay.

I am in Michigan and I just got my 4th little refund. I couldn't figure it out and this makes sense.

In Michigan as well, and have been receiving these randomly for the last couple of months. Never could figure out until now - yeah it is probably a sales tax on shipping refund due to MI law changes

Are they also refunding the seller for the FVF on the shipping tax refund portion?
