I ordered two items but only got one

Hi, I recently ordered 2 mops from a seller that had 95% positive feedback and I didn't think something can go wrong as I have bought many things on ebay throughout the years and never had trouble. However today I received my order and to my surprise there was only one mop. When asking the carrier isn't it supposed to be another package I was told it only was sent one. I immediately sent message to seller asking how's that possible thinking that the other package might come later and he may be had sent two different orders. I got no answer so I requested help from ebay. To my surprise my cased was closed soon after with ebay claiming the seller had provided tracking information and thus I couldn't get refund. It means the seller has ignored my message but made it look to ebay like I got my full order. Now I am sitting with one item when I bought two and don't know what to do. I already opened and used the mop so I can't send it back and claim a refund but I would like the get what I paid for. How can I prove to ebay I only received one item? If I contact carrier and make them send a confirmation for receiving just one item would that help? Has anybody experienced something like this ever?

Messaging and contacting the carrier is not how Money Back Guarantee works.

Returns, items not received, and refunds for buyers | eBay

Go to your item in your purchase history. Click the drop down menu and locate RETURN THIS ITEM select missing parts or pieces, follow the prompts. The seller has 2 days to respond. If you don't get a response from the seller or are not satisfied you can click the link in the case to ask eBay to step in. Good luck.

 

In the futre stay away from sellers with less than 98% positive feedback. 95% is horrid IMO.

You needed to file an item not as described case since you did receive a package.    If you paid by credit card, contact your card company. If not, contact the payment service you used. Again it's a not as described case you have to file.

Open ONLY 1 case at a time. Do what the other person stated and return the mop with the reason "missing parts."  It does not matter that you used the map.  Just wash it and let it dry out before you mail it back.

The MISSING PARTS OR PIECES is the only reason on the list for which eBay does not expect you to return anything, because you cannot send back a missing part for a refund of that missing part. 

 

Click RETURN THIS ITEM

Select the MISSING PARTS OR PIECES reason

Enter the Quantity "1" for the missing mop you cannot return

Add a comment about the missing mop, upload a photo of the other mop, then click Request a return.

You cannot return the used mop @matdah0 as eBay requires returns to be in the same condition as when they arrived.

 

After 3 business days, if you still don't have your half refund, click Ask eBay to step in. If you get a prepaid return label, affix it to an empty box and send that back to get your half refund.

Reach out to the seller once more, explaining the situation and reiterating that you received only one mop instead of the two you ordered. Give them another opportunity to respond and address the issue. Sometimes, sellers may overlook or miss messages, so it's worth trying to contact them again.

Collect any evidence you have that supports your claim of receiving only one item. This could include photos of the package and its contents, screenshots of your messages with the seller, and any other relevant documentation. These pieces of evidence can be useful when communicating with eBay's customer support.

Could you please tell us the source of your information … as I have not heard that.

 

AFAIK, regardless of the reason for the return … a buyer is expected to return everything they received if the seller demands that in lieu of a partial refund.

It sounds like we might not have hands-on experience with eBay returns.

If a buyer starts a return for 2 of 5 t-shirts, but the seller demands that everything they received is returned

If a buyer starts a return for missing 1 of 2 mops, but the seller demands everything they received is returned

e.g. Why does the Refund summary show the buyer will only get a half refund, even if they send everything back?

Thank you everyone for helping me out. I've followed your advices and already spoken with both ebay and the seller. He blaims the shipment company and promises to send another one tommorow. I am not sure if I can trust him as there is 10 days deadline until the cause is closed. However I accepted his apology and said I'll wait until I get a proof and tracking number that he's sent a new order. If I don't get any until the deadline I'll have to proceed with the claim.

I was attempting to be respectful by saying “AFAIK” … because your statement that “eBay doesn’t expect you to return anything” if you claim ‘Missing parts or pieces” is actually patently false.

 

The examples you gave do NOT prove your statement.

When parts are missing or the box is empty, eBay included MISSING PARTS OR PIECES on the list of return reasons as the only reason which doesn't have anything to return to get a refund -- every other reason on the list requires something to be returned to get a refund.

You would start a return request, even though you received nothing or just a fraction of your order, with nothing to return.

It's actually in internal eBay policies, not published, that technically nothing to return is sometimes appropriate.
