eBay found that I was owed money and I am being sent a refund for an item that was never received. However the card that I originally purchased the item on three months ago has since been closed by me. How will eBay then refund my money? I don't know how to ask them. Thank you

I was really frustrated everyone telling me to contact my bank, when my bank kept telling me they couldn't do squat for me. So remember .... just keep trying DIFFERENT people at your bank until you hit the one that actually knows what's going on! Thanks for your help all and here's hoping this actually happens!
Hey, great! Good to hear that you were able to get through to someone at the bank that knows how that bank handles this kind of situation.
Each bank/CC can have different processes, so your question didn't have a definitive answer other than refunds go to the original form of payment so you needed to work with your bank on it. I know that's frustrating when the front line reps don't know what's going on, but it is the correct process. Anybody else in this situation needs to stick with their bank until they get through to someone that understands how that bank handles the process.

Just wanted to make sure you saw the OP's answer to your question. [It's so difficult tracking posts with the #s changing all the time.] It's currently in Message 45:
Okay here is an update. I DID get thru to the Ebay chat - thanks for the secret tips on how to do that! They said there was NO OTHER WAY to get the money to me. Period. End of story. It goes back to the original card. Which in this case doesn't exist.

There was a larger problem of the original seller - who's name I have in my original email from the order - DISAPPEARED without a trace. Some Chinese hanky panky it turns out. Then the order supposedly got taken over a by a NEW seller. It was all a mess.

So it does appear that we need to contact the bank that issued the credit card used to purchase the item ... regardless of whether the account was completely shut down. eBay just isn't doing what you are expecting them to do.

@house*of*paws Or we could say; eBay isn't doing what they suppose to do. All eBay needs to do is refund by an alternative way, so Buyer wouldn't run around like this. There are many ways to force eBay to do the right thing. We could explore those next time. It's Similar to the path O P took with the Bank

Sure, OP could have asked eBay if a site credit was possible before the refund was issued. Once the refund was processed by eBay, it was done. It was too late to tell the OP to ask for an alternate method of refund.
Based on what they said, they're not too thrilled with eBay and probably wouldn't have wanted a site credit when they could get the refund through their bank instead.
I hope OP will reconsider their stance on eBay. One bad experience with one bad seller doesn't mean they won't have hundreds of great purchases with hundreds of other sellers. And now that they know they can get help through this forum if it's needed, they can avoid things like unnecessary account closures.

2 Billion transactions a day on eBay, there will be always someone neglected, very normal

I'm not an attorney, so will not even try to interpret the law re what eBay is 'supposed to do'.
This is starting to sounds like those posts where MP sellers are demanding that eBay release their funds by an 'alternative way' so that they don't have to provide a checking account #. They also are convinced that eBay could do it if they really wanted to ... and maybe they can ... but it doesn't seem like eBay agrees.
I'm sorry that this must seem like several of us are ganging up on you ... but you are maintaning a point of view that contradicts what velvet@ebay has told the OP to do. 'Forcing eBay to do the right thing' just doesn't sound like a winning strategy to me.
BTW, you still haven't answered a question I sincerely would appreciate the answer to: Are you saying that if a buyer paid for an item with a CC issued from Bank A ... that a company could send a refund to a CC issued from Bank B if the account with Bank A is closed?

Hi
How do they give a refund when you don't keep a credit card on file? I only use it to pay then take it off as I don't want it stored on there.
Thank you
