Guilty Without a Trial!!!

I think it is so rude and wrong that eBay doesn't insist that a buyer who is unhappy, contact you first to see if something can be worked out. Now it sems, a buyer can start the return, get authorization from eBay for the return, hold your funds, but of course, send the item back before you even know there's an issue!!! And you get nothing to say about it at all. That isn't right!!! Guilty without trial, that's un-American.

@member47895

I have my account set to require an RMA # so that a return request is not "automatically" approved.

That provides a bit of delay before action needs to be taken providing for a chance to perhaps resolve.

I don't interpret these events as accusing me of guilt ... it is just the way eBay works.

If a buyer is lying, then you have a couple of seller protections* to combat fraudulent returns.  In other words, you are the one who gets to be the judge.

" Guilty without trial, that's un-American"

You are confusing Ebay with the Federal govrnment.

Re: Guilty Without a Trial!!!

I have always gotten a notice from eBay in an email why funds are on hold...it's usually a buyer.

If you did nothing...to respond to claim...of course ebay will do the return and hold your funds...but funds are usually hold during the claim when it is first opened. A seller usually gets 5 days to respond to an open claim.

Doing nothing it's eventually gets escalated by eBay.

A seller should work out a problem with the buyer. I can't believe you never knew what was going on.

That's strange.

Re: Guilty Without a Trial!!!

I received an item that was described as like new Monday of last week. I sent the seller a message with photos about the middle of the week because the item sent did not match the description or photos. Monday I am opening a not as described return. So sometimes even if you do try to work things out with the seller, you run into a brick wall.

Thanks! I'll have to find that little goodie.  Buyer doesn't even have the guts to tell me why.

Didn't know a thing, heck he only got it today! No notification from eBay or the seller didn't even have the you know whats to let me know there was an issue, for all I know, it's buyer's remorse, that doesn't cut it. Thanks.

Re: Guilty Without a Trial!!!

Thanks, this was a 64 year old radio, lots of photos and answered questions before buyer bough the item. No email to let me know it didn't meet with his high standards of "used", just straight to return, that's not right, what you're doing is right, no one gave me a chance.

When a seller has a return policy, the buyer can return the item for any reason or for no reason.

You have a return policy so the buyer doesn't have to tell you why they're returning it.

I found it, thank you! Funny thing is, I had my preferences turned on and they still gave this person a refund even though his return excuse was he changed his mind, that was checked off what I accepted, and they should not have allowed it.

My guess is that it is a remorse return and you probably have your settings set to automatically accept returns. Buyer will be charged for the return shipping label that was provided.

If it had been a NAD claim, it wouldn't have been automatically accepted. Sellers are notified of NAD claims so depending on "how NAD" the item is, they may not want the added expense of paying for a return label. They might opt to just issue a full refund and let the buyer keep or dispose of the item.

I think you're mistaken that they gave the refund. They probably just supplied the return shipping label but the payment for the label doesn't come from your funds (per your "buyer pays return shipping") when it's a remorse return. If the buyer uses the label, the price of the label will be deducted from their refund.
