So I receive a cheap knock-off instead of a genuine item.
I initiate the returns procedure but discover the seller has listed a fake address in China despite having sent the item from within England. Now I'm stuck with a return which can't be completed and if I cancell the return procedure I cancel the option to have Ebay intervene.
It's quite a clever scam actually. Of course there is NO WAY to get Ebay to respond. Do I really have to settle for being ripped off like this?
I notice from their feedback that I'm not the only person to have complained about the fake item and its misrepresentation in the listing.

Yes, @donnybhoy
- you are stalled on a return details page with no button to Ask eBay to step in,
- there's only options to Cancel or Add a tracking number to China, and
- the deadline looms until your return closes without a refund.
To pass the impasse, contact eBay privately as above on social media with your name, email, and postal code, then tell eBay you need a prepaid return label. The censorship you're witnessing in the quoted area is by courtesy of this board.

This very situation was asked about in the last "Weekly Discussion with eBay Staff" (22 September, 2021).
There was no answer from any of the eBay hosts and I would like to believe that this is simply something that has to be researched further before they can offer any comments regarding these types of situations.
How about it, velvet@ebay, Jasmen@ebay and Tyler@ebay? Have you any new information for us about this yet? At least an estimate as to when you might be able to give us more guidance?

Has the seller accepted the return and paid you the funds to return the item yet?

Nope. I reported the issue to PayPal... now the seller is offering to refund me if I change the feedback but they are still advertising the fake product

Everything chinese sellers sell on ebay is fake or rebranded copy.

Unfortunately that means you've thrown your eBay case under the double decker. Once you go to PayPal @donnybhoy any case at eBay will automatically close
And now if you want your money back, you indeed have to yourself pay for return shipping with tracking back to China in order to get your refund.

Please read the original post carefully before commenting.
The address in China generated by the returns process is FAKE and shipping the item to the zip code offered would cost TEN times what the fake item itself cost. The fake item was sent to me from within England.
No bus involved.

Are you still disputing through eBay or has that dispute closed?
There is no reason to believe that changing the feedback would lead to a refund.
And you can't demand the refund before you change the feedback, since that could be construed as FeedBack Extortion.
Continue with the PP dispute if the eBay one is closed . Unfortunately, PP insists that the buyer pay for return shipping to the original shipping address (not the current address in China-- but was there a UK address or did the listing and invoice just "say" UK?.
How expensive is return shipping with tracking? More than the value of the item+shipping that you could be refunded?
I see you have "fake Nikon" as a tag. A camera or a lens cap?
Keep in mind that in addition to PP, you can later phone the credit card you back your PP account with and enquire about a chargeback.
This only works with credit cards. Not gift cards or debit cards or bank accounts.

It was a battery charger for a Nikon DSLR. Their listing explicitely shows the real thing but what arrived in a plastic bag was a nondescript piece of crap. The listing is still up and they are continuing with the scam.

If you opened a case on Pay Pal, it'll close the Ebay case.
On Pay Pal, you'll have to pay to return it to what ever address they give you.

Sooooo...
You opened a Not As Described dispute on eBay?
Normally eBay tells the seller to send return postage, occasionally eBay will generate a Return ShippingLabel and charge it to the seller.
If eBay or the seller provided the Return Shipping Label it costs you nothing to use it and the address is the one that is to be used.
But.
If you decided to open a Paypal dispute, the eBay dispute will automatically close. This is to prevent double dipping.
But you can open a PP dispute if the eBay dispute was not successful and had already closed.
The problem there is that PP demands that the seller pay for return shipping.
Could you clarify the timeline?
