So my wife disputed a payment on an item I purchased because she didn’t recognize it and I don’t use eBay often. After talking to the bank and letting them know it was an ok purchase, the payment went through and I received the item.
Unfortunately, the item didn’t fit/work out for what I needed. Now it is not allowing me to return the item due to the dispute. Any suggestions?

Does the seller for this item accept returns?

Maybe you could sell it yourself here on eBay.

Contact your bank and open another chargeback for INAD. EBay will not allow you to open a return request if a chargeback has already been opened but that restriction is supposed to only apply if the cases are of the same type.

Why would you give them this advice? He didn't say the item wasn't as described or defective, he said it didn't fit or work out for what he needed it for. That doesn't mean the seller didn't describe it correctly or the item is defective. The OP says he talked to his bank to let them know the transaction was valid, what he isn't saying is that the bank as reversed the claim yet. I've seen this take months sometimes, it's not immediate. So just because he talked to his bank doesn't mean the dispute has been closed. The OP can go into the purchase and see if the dispute is still opened, I'm going to assume it is.

Because it is the only option the OP has at the moment. What the buyer inferred was the item didn't fit as to whether that is on the seller or the buyer is not clear but since he can't return it through eBay's process the chargeback is his only option.

The only option left is credit card fraud?
Please don't give that kind of adivce, there are enough terrible buyers on ebay already.

You disputed the purchase.
Then changed your mind.
Now you want to return the item?
My BBL just went up by one.

That would be wrong since they bought the wrong item.
It isn't defective, just won't work for what they had it planned for.

"wife dispute payment"
"OK purchase"...sent to bank
"didn't fit/work out"...return the item
Suggestions: donate it to someone else.

It's not fraud as codified under the current federal laws the CC companies operate under. The buyer cannot return the item through any of eBay's processes. So the chargeback is appropriate. Of course it would be ethically appropriate for the buyer to return the item to the seller which he can do directly.

Most of people on this forum are Sellers, and almost everyone has been in the shoes of chargebacks. Such "incidents" like yours create a nightmare to Sellers. Your only option is to contact the Seller, and to see if it will work out.

That is your assumption what the OP stated was "the item didn’t fit/work out for what I needed". My assumption was the item did not match the listing and would not fit/work out.
