Customer return request, their description in request doesn’t match item I sold?

Hello everybody,

I have got another question for the wise out there. I have run into a situation where someone purchased an item from me. I sent the item the next day and the day after I sent the item they opened a return request. I know they haven’t received the item it’s still in process with usps and they are states away should take at least two days. Anyhow in their description of why they requested the return they picked it was because item wasn’t as described and then in their comments they explained what parts in my description weren’t right and how they could tell the item wasn’t made of what it was listed as. However the points they made aren’t anywhere in my item description and as I said before they don’t even have the item in their hand yet to see. As far as I know I described the item to the best of my ability and I think they opened a case on my item by accident. I have messaged them and asked them to confirm this was the correct item they meant to return but I have not heard back in a couple days now. I am hesitant to get eBay involved at this moment. I’ve heard eBay always sides with the purchaser in these case. Would it even be worth while to get eBay involved or Should I just eat the cost of shipping and get the item back and give them a refund? I’ve worked hard to keep my feedback all positive and would like to keep it that way if possible.

Thanjs for the help!

Did they open a return request through ebay or is this a message they sent you?

If through ebay, accept the return, you've got no choice and they stated not as described.  Yeah, you'll pay the return shipping.

And when you get "something" back (most likely, it won't be what you sent them), you can come back and tell us about it.  We'll sympathize, but there's nothing that can be done.

And that's how it works.

(feedback doesn't matter anymore)

Save yourself the long rambling of comments to describe what happened. All you need to know when it comes to eBay is as follows:

1) Buyer is always right

2) Seller is always wrong

3) Never sell anything you can't afford to loose

4) When in doubt, go back and re-read from 1)

The buyer opened a return request, agree to it, and submit a return label. Buyer will receive a return label and they will send package back to you. Once your return label shows that it has been received on your end, the refund is generated.

If buyer fails to return item within the allowed time frame, the case is close in your favor.

If seller fails to respond on the return request, eBay will automatically side with buyer, approve refund, and buyer keeps item. This, is what you do not want.

If buyer made error, let them realize this on their own.

Send a friendly message to buyer and ask them not to accept the package. Apparently, they don't like what they bought so by not accepting the package, you wouldn't be liable for return shipping cost.

If shipping cost is less than $10, just take the loss, accept return and you're free of all explaining to do

This Buyer is out to teach lessons. Buyer's intent wasn't to purchase but to prove you wrong on description. Let Buyer have his/her day, accept the return. Just ask Buyer, if he/she is serious; don't accept or open the package

Ok that’s what I thought just wanted to be sure. Well that sucks eBay strikes again, beginning to not see it too feasible anymore.. Oh well no point in crying over spilled milk.

Thanks for the responses, I’ll keep that check list in mind next time around!

The buyer did respond and say he submitted a return on the wrong item. I don’t see that changing anything much. I will send them the label just the same, if they use great if not great..
