Hey guys! I sell sportscards! It takes me a month to get any of the cards into the mail! If someone emails me wondering where their cards are and the player is hot, I automatically refund their order and post it for more money. If the player is cold, then I drag the process out as long as I can and force the buyer to navigate ebay's system to get a return?
What do you all think about that???
(I'm not actually doing this, another seller is going this to their customers). Tips on how to deal with them? It's becoming a problem with buyers too...

All listings show an 'estimated' delivery date. Without a tracking number being provided by that date, the next day the buyer can 'open' a 'refund' for non delivery. If said date is over 30 days out, buyer get's exactly what they were promised...someday you'll get it. But, doubtful that is the date that is being shown.

Not shipping on time messes with their shipping metrics. Cancelling and refunding when the buyer didn't ask to cancel earns them a defect. Racking up defects results in below average seller performance, which leads to suspension.
If they keep that up they'll be looking for another place to sell sports cards.

Wonder what their feedback shows, if the negs have not all been pulled?

You're completely wrong. Since the buyer contacted them concerning their cards, they can claim the refund occurred at the buyer's request. eBay won't look into it because they might be listing tens of millions of dollars worth of sports cards every month.

It shows a lot of people who asked where their cards were getting their orders canceled without reply and seeing the cards listed for more later...

I'm sorry, I did not see where the OP contacted the seller. What I comprehend is he has a seller he's dealing with that has those term in his description. Seems like the seller is warning buyers they have a long handling time and their their transaction could be cancelled before it's been shipped if their player gets hot. That's against policy to cancel and refund when the buyer didn't ask. Their terms do not go along with eBay policy. If the seller does cancel and claimed the buyer requested it the buyer most certainly contact eBay and say their seller lied to avoid a defect.
Pretty sure their listing could be reported. Cancelling because the item is suddenly more valuable has consequences.

Can you do this? Sure. Ebay will shut you down when you feedback becomes horrible and you will never be able to come back.

That's a fast way to end your days of being a poster of listings on eBay and becoming unprofessional in your "career"
