Amazon like return policies

Anyone else getting tired of the " Return it for whatever reason you want policy"? The policy where you have no say so whatsoever. I have lost several hundred in sales, not to mention time, in the last week alone. Reasons being, " Thought I was buying something else", " Decided I didn't want it", " Ordered the wrong one".

eBay used to give the seller the option to refute a return if it was damaged, not as described, etc. But now they are trying to be like Amazon and will authorize any return for any reason! My return policy means nothing if they override it....

...welcome to Money Back Guarantee policy from eBay...

 

...eBay get the reputation without losing any money...their sellers are the ones whom sucking up the lost...

 

...someone will say "you agreed with eBay to handover your rights by signing eBay TOS"...

17 of your 18 listings accept returns.

 

If you accept returns, then you accept returns.

 

It is what it is.

 

They could just file an INAD, and then you could also pay the return shipping.

And don't forget: and lose both your money and the item.  And if it's a charge back, be charged a $20.00 fee.

Here's one I had yesterday. Someone bought a 3-CD set, a compilation of blues music from various artists. Now 3 weeks later, she wants to return it:

 

Just didn't like it

The Cd of sets r many Blues music that I don’t like the songs

 

At least she was honest about the reason. So you can buy music (or a movie or a book) and return it because you don't like it? I've got several things I can return for that reason.

I offer a no questions asked return policy. Returns are a cost of doing business. I factor the costs into my profit margin.

 

I personally will not shop anywhere that has no returns policy, so I sure am not going to not accept returns from my customers.

 

Also, by accepting returns it eliminates, the fake “item not as described” returns and the associated dings.

You're so cute!  Accepting returns doesn't stop them, but $3.00 purchases makes you safer, so you'll be fine.

Well yes and no.  No in that, if I loose any money on a return like with shipping costs etc, I just add that cost across the board on all my listings. Nor too many returns, but if you are a good business person and can do math then you just add it on somewhere else.

Usually you will not loose your item on here AS LONG as you accept returns and for goodness sakes, never fight someone over this, it just ain’t gonna work.

...even you accept returns you still loose your items when buyers send back an empty box, or something else, or a box of rocks instead...(there were several posts in here...)

...B&M stores with "Final Sale" offer "No Return, No Exchange" and peoples still shop there...

 

...and accepting returns will not eliminate INAD cases...

 

...also buyers can sneak away with both seller's money and item by filing CC charge back or transaction dispute...on top of that, sellers will face $20 fee from eBay...

A large seller like the river can afford it.  Us smaller sellers can't.   eBay can't seem to decide if it's a flea-market or high end retailer.  It leaves both buyers and sellers confused as what to expect.

I don't remember when the last time I had a INAD return. I offer free returns so there is no need for buyer to make up an excuse if they change their mind. Buyers use INAD to get around a sellers no return policy. Also, I have been selling mail order long before eBay and learned I you refuse a return. A savvy buyer will just file a chargeback claim, in which case you end up refunding the money plus paying a $20.00 chargeback fee. 

 

I also include a preprinted note on a small sheet of paper with every order to let the buyer know I offer free returns for any reason even if they changed their mind and to contact me before starting a return. The note also includes detailed instructions on how contact me thru eBay. If it is a cheap item I will usually just do a refund and let them keep the item. If I want the item I will go to Pirate ship and email them a return label. I tell them I will refund once tracking shows the item is on its way back to me. This is another way I prevent INADs and the associated dings.
