I recently asked for a return on a ring because it was the wrong size. The item was listed as a certain size (6.5 -7) and the ring was actually 7.5--8. I opened a not as described case and the seller offered a partial refund. I accepted the partial refund with the ebay policy that I would be keeping the ring. However, when I read the 'comments' area after I accepted the partial refund, the seller wants me to return the ring to his/her "new" address. The seller's reasoning for the partial was to refund to cost of ring minus shipping. However, the ebay system shows it will be refunding the partial amount, shipping and tax. The ebay system also says I keep the ring. So now I'm confused. I would have really liked to just have had the return accepted by the seller, even though the seller doesn't offer returns, and the return label generated. Now I have ring that the seller wants back and an address with no 'confirmation' in which I have to pay for shipping to the seller. My understanding is that I am under no obligation to send the item back, but it would be 'nice' if I did. Any suggestions? I guess I can't undo a partial refund once the case is closed after I accepted the partial refund.

If you have received the refund, your done case closed. Sounds like your seller did not understand how that refund offer works. Nope, no way to undo that in eBay.

If you think it's an honest mistake by the seller and you want to be able to get it back to them, you could sell it back to them by listing it on eBay for them to purchase.
You could use the partial refund to cover any fees or shipping if it was enough to cover. You don't have to do anything if the case is closed but if you want to find a safer way of sending it back where you could get paid through the system, this might be a way to achieve that. Might not be the best choice, but it is an option to get the rest of your money back to you if you want to send it back. Just understand all of the fees and/or the possibility of funds being held for new sellers.

When you open an NAD case, the seller is required to send a prepaid return label and to refund in full upon receipt of the returned item. You don't deviate from that process unless you want to run into issues. Perhaps this is a new seller? And you do know, of course, that a seller has to offer a return if the buyer opens an NAD case.

"new address"....huge red flag. You might not even be corresponding to the actual seller. I would do nothing and not respond any further.

The seller is the one who is confused. Had you sent that back the seller would have had to pay for the return and refund you the full amount you originally paid. A partial refund means that the buyer is being compensated for the mistake and they get to keep the item.

There is nothing wrong with accepting a partial refund when a seller offers that instead of a return and I don't think that it is common for that to cause an issue. In this case the seller misunderstood how the partial refund would work or they are trying to pull a fast one.

I'm still a bit befuzzled on why you'd accept a partial refund unless it was enough to cover resizing. Did it? 🤞

I accepted the partial refund because I paid a little bit more than $80 for the ring and the partial offer was $65! So she probably didn't understand partial offers included having the buyers keep the item. I did offer for her that if she refunded the rest (about $10 because EBay also refunded shipping costs) AND provided a shipping label, I'd send it back because I probably would have won the NAD case anyway and she'd have to refund and send a label. She suggested that I had 15 days to send the item back or EBay would reverse the refund. I asked her to have EBay send me a message stating such thing since I don't have a label to send it back to her.

eBay isn't going to reverse the refund...LOL
When you do a partial refund the buyer gets to keep the item.
The seller messed up, just ignore them and move on with you life.

So glad you came back and made it all make sense... I'd have accepted that size partial refund, too!
I've got 4 granddaughters and while the ring wouldn't fit me, I'd have reason to keep it (for that price) to gift to one of them.
I'd not even bother reading another message from your seller... she's blowing smoke. You've already fed her for life, no? 🐟

Your seller is quite confused. $65 would be way too much for a "partial" to cover resizing.
You did the right thing telling them to provide the rest of the refund amount to have it returned.
Seller is confused when thinking the buyer should be less than 100% refunded for a seller error.
