If you are using a browser and search results links are opening in the same browser tab you should be able to use your browser's "back" button to go back to the search results where you left off.
If you are using a browser and search results are opening in a new browser tab you there is no previous history in that new tab to go back to; in that case, closing the new tab should leave you back in the original browser tab with the search results.
The setting that controls whether search results open in a new tab or not is located in the Customize menu which you can reach through your search results in the upper right where you can switch between List or Gallery view.
If that is not working for you, try another browser to rule out a browser issue.
