I just wanted to let everyone know that a hacked account can happen at any time . Last night , some one changed my password and took control of my account . I found out this morning when I couldn't sign in to my account , it said "OOPS password does not match" and to reset my password , they were going to send me a code to verify it was me but it was showing a different email address , NOT mine . Thankfully , the hacker did not buy or bid on anything and everything appears to be ok once ebay straightened it out for me . Today I added 2-step verification to my sign in . Maybe that will help prevent it from happening again .

To be on the safe side, I would suggest changing your password again, from inside your account.
I have read of spoofing scams with that error you cite when it is actually a phishing attempt to get your password. Not saying that's what happened...

Situations like the one you've described are generally the result of you being hacked, not of eBay being hacked. This can be the result of weak passwords or using the same passwords for multiple sites.
Try checking into a password generator service that creates a different password for each site that is just a jumble of characters (random letters, numerals, etc.).
The previous poster suggested you change your eBay password again, which is good advice. In fact, if you've used your eBay password on any other sites, I'd spend the rest of the day changing each password you've created to unique ones.
