ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

A customer from Canada made a purchase today from me and when I went to print the shipping label

I saw ebay charged the customer the wrong amount.

The customer paid for first class international $3.33 the actual shipping cost is $9.50.

I checked my listing and it is set for Letter or Large Envelope.

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

Me too! I've been on the phone for 40 minutes waiting for Ebay to tell me how to handle this. Any suggestions?

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

smmatt: No suggestions. I called ebay earlier today and after waiting for over an hour I gave up. I thought I'd check here and see if anyone had any ideas.
i'm thinking that I am just going to contact the customer tomorrow and tell them ebay charged the wrong amount and see if they want to pay the difference. Which i doubt they will as the item they purchased was only $3.00.
Then I'll just ask them to cancel the order and refund them.

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

You can't use Letter or large envelope to print online postage.
You have to use Package or thick envelope from the drop down
You should bulk edit your first class listings or you will get alot more that sell & pay less for shipping then what you will be charged.

ebay will frown on you cancelling sales due to your mistake, a cancel will be a defect for you
It may be best to take the loss & ship this one but fix all your other first class items

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

That is not the problem. i went to the post office website and entered package thick envelope like my listing has and it also showed the shipping cost was $10.00($9.50 is ebay discount) ebay is charging buyers the cost that it would have been to ship in the US. Not ship to Canada.

Your first post says (I checked my listing and it is set for Letter or Large Envelope.)
Now above you say your listing has package thick envelope !

Either way I just checked one of your sold items from the 25th it shows first class shipping $3.00 to me here in NJ
I Then changed it to enter my Canada cottage postal code number in & it does not change the shipping
Are you using Flat rate shipping or calculated?
Gund tree $3.00 to NJ or Canada

also ebay has a shipping calculator no need for me to use USPS
http://www.ebay.com/shp/Calculator

I think you need to check all your package sizes vs Large envelope or flat rate vs calculated charges
I do not believe this is an ebay issue.

That is why your buyer was charged $3.33.  That is the correct postage to send a 6-ounce flat (AKA Large envelope) to Canada.  The online postage for a 6-ounce package is $9.50.  The eBay shipping calculator did not make a mistake.  You charged the buyer for a flat and then tried to print postage for a package.

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

I would recommend sending a message to the buyer and explaining the difference in shipping and ask if you could send them another invoice through PayPal for the difference in shipping costs, or if they would rather cancel the order? Most buyers would rather pay the difference if it is something they really want. I know, I have and it wasn't a problem. If they get upset, then you will need to decide whether to ship it anyway and eat the shipping costs yourself or cancel the order and incur eBay's wrath. Good luck.

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

It's things like this that keeps me from putting shipping costs on my listings. I always ask buyers to send me their zip-code for a price quote or wait until I send a revised invoice with the correct ship costs before sending payment to save me from having to send an additional invoice for the correct amount if it is more than what the calculator came up with. Works very well for me.

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

Are you people not using the Global International Shipping? You only pay for Domestic when you use it and they take care of everything for you. You ship to the Global Shipping which is Domestic and then they send it the rest of the way. This is a win, win situation and if you are not using it, stop what you are doing and revise all your listings to reflect this on shipping. They are responsible for it getting there after you get it to them. I ship all my international sales this way and have lost a package. No more filling out forms. Give it a try.

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

I meant to say, "NEVER lost a package". Sorry about that. I also use the Thick Envelope/Package on all listings even when I send First Class. You can always change it to which is best when you go to print your label. If you charged too much, simply refund the difference to the buyer. They'll appreciate it. Use eBay's Global Shipping Program, it one of the few things that eBay has done right for its sellers.

Re: ebay charged customer wrong shipping amount!

I have sold an audio CD (@ £3.99) to USA, for which I would have charged £5.50p for postage via Royal Mail.

Ebay have hi jacked this sale to send through their Global system.

On changing staus to Dispatched I saw that Ebay charged the customer an additional £14.00p.

I doubt the customer would use me again at those postage costs!
