eBay checking user's browser at endless length — WHY????

Any time I try to look at a listing — any listing — I get this:

Screenshot 2025-09-08 at 3.15.41 PM.png

And it doesn't redirect "shortly"; hours can go by, and it still hasn't moved forward. (Believe me, I've waited that long.) As a result, I can't preview my new listings before posting, I can't look at other sellers' listings, I can't look at my own listings when considering an offer.

This has been going on for about the last week. The question is: why? Is there some kind of technical melt-down in progress, or is eBay just being paranoid? If the latter, what is this supposed to protect us from? It can't be good for eBay's business!

Those tests are typically done by third-party security outfits as a way to prevent bots from tying up excessive eBay resources, or to stop denial-of-service attacks. For most ordinary users, that message should disappear and be replaced by the page you were trying to load.

Sometimes a problem with a browser may make it look like a bot to such a test.

If that is happening to you, try opening eBay in a new browser tab, try using a different browser, or try using a private or incognito browser window.

If you are using a VPN, try connecting without the VPN.
