eBay Purchased Shipping Labels: USPS Tracking Numbers Mismatch with Buyer Addresses issue

There is an issue with eBay USPS shipping labels. It seems that USPS assigned tracking numbers correspond to different addresses than those of the buyers who purchased the items, even though we are shipping via USPS using eBay-purchased labels. We now have three customers reporting that the tracking shows "delivered," but they have not physically received the packages. USPS tracking details indicate the package was delivered, but as you can see, it was delivered to a different state.

One buyer messaged us, surprised that we supposedly shipped the item before they even purchased it. We checked this out, as it seemed nonsensical—how could that be possible? To our surprise, the tracking number on their eBay-purchased label shows the package in USPS possession as the first record, and the second record shows it on the way to a town with an "in transit" comment the day before the purchase. What's even more puzzling is that we didn’t ship the item because it was purchased on Friday afternoon, and we planned to give it to USPS on Monday. The buyer messaged us on Sunday about this situation.

Now, another customer is blaming us for shipping to the wrong address because the tracking number shows it as "delivered," but not to them. From the tracking number, we can see it was delivered to a completely different state.

We contacted eBay, but their standard agents don’t seem to understand the issue, and unfortunately, there’s no direct way to contact their IT department. We sent a message using the "Appeal Defect" feature asking to forward it to the appropriate department, but after 48 hours, there has been no response.

This could be a serious issue, and we’re wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem. It seems like someone might have hacked the system, causing labels to be assigned to different tracking numbers or duplicating them. What is going on?

Why isn't eBay reacting to this? We should be notified if it's safe to continue shipping using their labels or if we need to hold off on all shipments. Thank you for your reply.

eBay Purchased Shipping Labels: USPS Tracking Numbers Mismatch with Buyer Addresses issue

@rynio1

I received an email from eBay regarding this situation at the email address associated with my account (not in eBay messages).  Please note the last sentence in the email which says, " We are working urgently with USPS to resolve this issue, and in addition we will protect you from seller performance metrics like tracking uploaded, late shipments, defects and/or poor feedback involving these impacted transactions."

If you have a buyer or buyers opening cases, I recommend contacting eBay customer service again and explaining how this issue impacted your shipping labels.

ETA Update: This message has now also come to my eBay messages.
