eBay API rounds your item weights DOWN?

Hello All,

Wondering if any of you all use listing tools that utilize the eBay API, and if so you have experienced this issue.

We use Shopify and their provided linkage tool to sync our listings to eBay, and sync the order information back to Shopify. We had an order recently that cost us nearly twice what it was quoted to ship. Digging into things, we realized that the item weight we had entered for the product was rounded down to the nearest ounce. We have spoken with the developer, and they confirmed that the issue/behavior is not with their linkage, but with eBay API itself.

For example, we have an item that is 250 grams, or 8.81 oz. eBay API rounds this down to 8 oz in the submitted eBay listing. This caused our item to be quoted at 8 oz instead of correctly being quoted at 9 oz. This is particularly significant as this is a price break level with USPS First Class Mail International. This resulted in the buyer being quoted $13.54 for an 8 oz package but us having to pay $22.80 for the 9 oz rate.

All shipping providers I know of charge by rounding up to the nearest full unit of measure. 8.81 oz charges at 9 oz, 1.5 lbs charges at 2 lbs, etc. Rounding down isn't the correct way to handle this in the eBay API. Anyone else had this issue? Trying to work it up with eBay but don't know exactly who handles this sort of thing!

Possibly rather than actually rounding, they are just ignoring the extra digits.  eBay's own user interface doesn't allow for entering any fractions or decimals.

Good thought, that is true.

While this is not a fix for the time being you may want to round up all of your items to the next ounce to make sure you are covered for the shipping cost.
