Technical Issues Continue to Stop Sales as Reported on eCommerceBytes

eBay stopped a power-bidder in his (or her) tracks, causing him to lose several auctions, according to a thread on the eBay boards - and that person was not alone.

"In the middle of bidding on 30+ auctions, while adding bids to get sign-out because the eBay bot thinks I am a bot and I lost several auctions, "the bidder reported on the eBay discussion boards.  "Thank you eBay for another brilliant idea, knock your power buyers out in the middle of auctions!!"

An EcommerceBytes reader also reported the issue on Ecommerce DKG, and on multiple threads, people reported receiving the following message when visiting the eBay website:

Pardon our interruption...
As you were browsing eBay, something about your browser made us think you were a bot. There are a few reasons this might happen:

- You're a power user moving through this website with super-human speed.
- You've disabled JavaScript in your web browser.
- A third-party browser plugin, such as Ghostery or NoScript, is preventing JavaScript from running."

The same problem had occurred in 2021, as we reported in, "eBay Thwarts Shoppers It Says Are Searching Too Fast"  (January 15, 2021).

In 2021, some people blamed the problem on Distil, a software that eBay reportedly uses to monitor the website for bots, though it was never confirmed.

Anything that impedes browsing buying is cause for concern, especially for sellers who use the auction format and who may miss out on all-important last-minute bids.

I remember getting that problem a few years back and for a short while having to click more slowly.

I assume back then the "sensitivity" had to be toned down, Looks like it been turned back up. Or more likely, with all the numerous bugs this year, they've had to reload earlier versions.

It's said on eBay the bugs always come back. Just like the board members.

I've had similar problems on many sites.  These sites are using bots to stop bots.  Of course, the bots used by customers are evil, but the bots used by corporations (eBay and others) can do no wrong!
