I came across an eBay API error of "Input data for tag is invalid" while using the ClassAdLister Android App to list a product to eBay.
Here is the solution I found that worked.
This occurred during both the Verify and List process which the app goes through in communicating with eBay to check for any errors or problems before it can proceed and be listed on eBay.
In my situation, the "TAG" that was "Invalid" was on the "List Item" page. This is the page that pops up when you first click on the button to list the product. This page presents the fields for your listing, including: Category, Size, Size Type, Style, Color, Material, Sleeve Length, Patterns, Modified Item, Modification description, season, Character, character family, California Prop 65 Warning, Country of Manufacture, Listing Type, Listing Duration, Payment method, Shipping Type, handling time, shipping service, package type, seller registered county.
Those are the "Tags" where most errors are going to occur.
In my situation, I was listing a garment for sale, and in the "Shipping Service" tag, I had selected First Class, US priority, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home. The error was being generated by FedEx Ground.
The Solution was to un-check FedEx Ground option box.
So if you are using ClassAdLister Android App with eBay, and you get a "Data Tag Error", what this is telling you, is that one of the fields of information, either on the main description page, or List Item page you either entered the wrong kind of information into a field, compared to what eBay is looking for, or you selected an option that no-longer works with eBay's API.
You'll need to clear out all of the fields and options you selected, then enter each one, one at a time, and click verify. If eBay responds that it successfully verified, then move to the next field or option selection, enter or choose what you want, verify it again, and if eBay say's it successfully verified, repeat again for each field or selection. Eventually, you are going to come to the field or option that creates the Data input Tag Error. If that option has more than one possible choice then try one choice and verify it. Then do it again, until you find the one creating the error. Once you know which one is creating the error, you can just leave that field un-checked or option empty and move on to the others you need to enter.
I recommend making a note, so you avoid that selection or option in the future. It would also be worth letting the app creator know which field or selection option is creating the error so they can remove it.
