How is the sales tax being calculated. I just noticed that eBay is incorrectly charging me sales tax on the items I purchase. My sales tax in my state and county is 7%. eBay is charging almost 8%. This is Atlanta so I cant see how eBay can mess that up?

At the risk of stating the obvious, Atlanta is a very big city with a lot of zip codes. In the city of Atlanta itself, the sales tax rate is 8.9%, so you're not being charged the rate for Atlanta. The state sales tax in Georgia is 4%, but counties and cities can add local and municipal sales tax as well.

eBay calculates the sales tax based on your zip code, but if there are multiple rates within a 5-digit zip code, they have to charge the highest rate that might apply. To avoid this, you need to use the zip+4 (9 digit) zip code, and then they will be able to calculate the exact rate for your shipping address.

I have the same problem. I am using the zip+4. I live in unincorporated county area. I told them before about this AND I think I managed to provide evidence somehow. ebay did not update sales tax rate.
