Request a new total button missing from shopping cart... years old issue

This is going to start short and sweet so those can follow along easily....

PUT THE REQUEST A NEW TOTAL BUTTON BACK ON THE CART.

I do not want to hear the number of stupid time wasting inaccurate alternate ways you want sellers to do this. Not 1.

What I want to hear in black and white and not have to tip toe thru the cowpasture or word salad explanations, at why this is such a big deal to do.

If you choose to keep ignoring this issue then we will get hip deep into it. I have pages of documentation from unhappy buyers to back up my points. This one screen shot is just 1 of a number of issues you, ebay, creates. This one is wasting time going back and forth with buyers that ebay does not want you to have combined shipping and you have to pay ebays incorrect shipping total shown in the cart...

I am tired of losing sales because of your blunders and lack of common sense and keeping thing simple...

I have told ebay countless times that before they stick these hairbrained ides in place to do the following 1st. It is fool proof in finding if your "idea" is going to work.

1. Get up off the chair and send someone out on the street and find 3 different (we are going to call them potential buyers) a younger one, a middle aged and a senior. They need to have the basic knowledge of using a desktop(no phone apps you made too big a mess of that) put them in a room, pay them a days wages...have the desktop on ebay and simply tell the to find and purchase a number of items from ONE seller only...with no help or guidance on your part.

If ...and it is a big one. IF the potential buyer can actually complete the task including accurate shipping, to the buyers satisfaction...then you idea has merit.

IF the potential buyer get lost or confused or even gets to the end and refuses to purchase due to the shipping being too high.... Then, ebay, it has failed and back to the drawing board until you get it right. This issue affects buyers from noobies to the most experience buyers.(below is a perfect example of what you, ebay, put both buyers and seller thru for no reason!)

** see the additional issue you create below V

This is a perfect example of ebay just leaving buyers out in the cold with no education at how nor explanationsThis is a perfect example of ebay just leaving buyers out in the cold with no education at how nor explanations

The additional aspect of this is if the buyer does pay the forced non combined total and is upset and blames the buyer, when it is ebay whom deserves the blame...when the buyer leaves feedback YOU ASK HIM TO RATE THE SHIPPING COSTS! And he does not give a favorable star all the while none of which was caused by the seller...this is something ebay has caused and needs to be responsible for....so you can also remove the rate shipping cost aspect from feedback to protect we sellers from You ebay. Pretty slick of you to set things up with stupid shipping costs and then let the sellers take the blame and loss of sale and poor star ratings on shipping...

I’m confused. You’ve been around the boards long enough to know that you’re not addressing eBay by posting here, yet you’re wording this whole post as if you are and will get an answer.

Yes, there are eBay employees who read at least some of the posts here. No, they are not likely to respond. No, this is not an effective way to make your feelings known to eBay.

Try using the Send Feedback option on eBay, from the ? button in the bottom right.

@quicksilverdiecast

Ever since eBay got rid of the "commit to buy and continue shipping with this seller" in favor of the CART, the cart has been wonky.  A total could not, and still can't be requested if

at least ONE of the items in the cart is 'on sale' OR

at least ONE of the items have free shipping OR

the items are of a different shipping class OR

etc. etc.
There are more things that would not allow it to appear or throw an error message even if it was there.  Then eBay added a preference for the seller to 'allow buyers to request a total'.  If it wasn't checked the buyer was told you don't allow combined shipping or other such message. Not to mention, of course, that the app never had the request feature at all.

Besides the Buyer Rules that are the combined shipping killers and set "Auto-Pay" in motion, there is an additional feature as well.

All offers a seller sends, and all counter offers a seller accepts meet another dead end for combined shipping as well.  EBay removed the "accept" button from the buyer's display which makes each of these 'immediate payment required'.  No invoicing/combining as each item must be paid separately at full shipping cost. That is regardless of any Buyer Rules/Auto-Pay setting you have be they on or off.  These also remain for sale until someone pays, and will not be auto-billed.

FWIW the last place I saw any mention allowing buyers to request a total was on this page:

https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

Scroll down and make sure this setting is enabled and set to yes Allow invoice requests

I would venture to say eBay would be quite happy if the combined shipping options for ANYTHING simply went away.  They want those individual non-refundable transaction fees for each listing, not just one for a combined order.

Want to know the reason for just about anything around here.....just follow the money.

The problem is a lot worse than you think, back in 2011 when eBay started playing around with the request total button it worked except for the reasons you stated.

As time passed they got more and more restrictive as to which buyer could use the Request Total button BUT they never explained what would trigger it to not work. For more than 10 years now they deny that there is any issue but that is simply not true.

One of eBay popular excuses was "the buyer must be using the app" (Request Total only became available "recently" on the App.

Anytime I have brought up this issue with eBay they simply deny that there is any problem whatsoever but I have communicated with many buyers, buyers that really know how eBay works and they always tell me that it is hit and miss if this option is available and over time it became less and less functional.

I have many buyers who purchase multiple items, prior to 2011 virtually every buyer could use the request total button, in recent years almost no buyer can use it. From time to time I do get one of those requests but it has become very rare that it is enabled and there is no discernible pattern as to who can and who can't use that option.

eBay still continues to deny that there is an issue.

@quicksilverdiecast

Like the OP this is the single biggest issue I have with eBay. In 2022 when eBay started refunding prorated fees on partial refunds I stopped trying to get eBay to fix this issue, it seemed to be a lost cause.

You are barking up  the wrong tree (aka: a misguided missile) about your pet peeve - try  submitting your rant to eBay via  the "Tell Us What Think".  You are  simply posting  on a  chat site of eBay members that are just buyers and shoppers..
