Removing messages from my computer?

I have thousands of messages in my "trash" file which I can not get rid of even if I click on delete they still appear. How do I get rid of them permanently?

We don't take out the trash, eBay does.  Sounds like they aren't doing their job!  I don't know how long it sits in there.  Nothing to worry about.
