Making the new "rate this item" a compulsory part of feedback is a mistake. On many purchases I would have been happy to provide positive feedback on the seller, but did not want to rate the item. Please make "rate this item" optional. I hope someone from ebay is reading this blog.

@speed_racer wrote:Completely agree. I've avoided leaving feedback a couple of times just because I wanted to give the seller a positive feedback without rating the item. What's even worse is that it's redundant. What is the difference between "rate this item" and "item description?" Can an item be great and not match the description? Can it be awful and match the description? Honestly, making this mandatory is just plain stupid.
@speed_racer I agree it's a bad idea. We sellers do appreciate when our buyers leave take the time to leave feedback. You can avoid the silly product review by selecting leave feedback at the BOTTOM of your own feedback page> https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/leave_feedback

I assume the change is to force buyers to give product ratings in an effort (ours, naturally) to make eBay more competitive with Amazon.
I will not review a product I haven't used. I will not be manipulated into giving a false review because I feel badly that unless I do so, I cannot give a positive review of a deserving seller.

A "rate this item" would and does reflect the seller as well as the product...and is just one thing more we do not need added to the platform...you already have the ability to rate the item as well as indicate whether or not it reflects the sellers performance....it is called "Feedback". Time would be much better spent fixing the issues you already have rather than adding more.

Therein is the problem...ebay is NEVER going to be competitive with Amazon, while using Amazon on occasion I have run into very few issues as a buyer....however I also would never become a seller on there for a number of other reasons.

Having the same issue. Found a work around by going to the site map and going into feedback that way avoids the "rate this item" option (non-option). This is not the first time I have had to find other ways to do stuff in eBay. The other option is to just stop leaving feedback. Most users don't leave feedback anyway but that really hurts new sellers and casual sellers.

Same. 100% agree. Really stupid, eBay.

REQUIRING a buyer to RATE A PRODUCT that just arrived and hasn't been used yet, instead of the seller, is THE MOST DUMBASS THING eBay has done, only exceeded by trying to require outright PRODUCT REVIEWS in order to leave Seller Feedback. If I wanted to effing rate or review a product, I wouldn't do it on eBay, and I would want to do it after I've actually USED it, not just unwrapped it.
GOODBYE FEEDBACK UNTIL EBAY DELETES THIS EFFING REQUIREMENT! THE MORON WHO CAME UP WITH THIS DUMBASS IDEA NEEDS TO BE FIRED!!

I am refusing to rate items, so I just reply to the sellers feedback explaining that I can't leave feedback because of the "Rate Item" feature and that they should complain same as I have many times.

Alas, just found today that that doesn't work anymore. It still demands a product rating. I hate leaving sellers without positive feedback for a good transaction, but this is what eBay has pushed me into.

Regarding the link you pointed us to: "I refuse to rate an item so I used a different Leave Feedback page and left my feedback without having to rate the product."
All was well until today. One of my purchases has "How would you rate this item?". I checked all 8 of them and only 1 in 8 is asking me to rate the item. It's the same type of item I normally buy (DVDs) so not sure what's up. It's kinda making me mad though. I do NOT want to rate a movie that I likely won't watch for weeks or months! But I don't want to punish a perfectly nice Seller by not leaving good feedback. This is truly getting frustrating. 😞

This is ridiculous! I'm also done with feedback until ebay removes that stupid compulsory requirement!

You should use the Comment Option on the feedback page. It's on the right hand side when using a computer> https://feedback.ebay.com/fdbk/feedback_profile/maxi77
You can ( if you wish) leave feedback by going to the feedback page and then clicking on Leave Feedback at the bottom of the page> https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/leave_feedback This bypasses the "rate this item" .
I agree that rate this item is not a good idea.

Unfortunately eBay updated that page at the end of June and now the "rate item" is no longer optional if you want to leave feedback for new items that are in the catalog.

BUMMER!!! Thanks for the update. EVERYONE needs to use the comment option on the feedback page.

This work-around is no longer working. 1 out of 8 purchases is now requiring me to Rate the Item (not the seller). Unsure why 1 out of 8 is wonky, but it is. I refuse to leave feedback on any that are requiring that I rate the item.
I have reached out to the Seller and explained that I have no issue with his service, but I wasn't going to leave feedback because it's requiring I leave it for the item, which I won't do when who knows when I'll finally get around the watching the movie.
Why are they doing this?? Who in the world thought this would be a good idea???
