Problem with Store Categories

Some years ago, store owners were given a choice as to whether to make their own store categories or to use Ebay categories...... I chose Ebay categories.  I can no longer find that option in the store choices......  Now I notice that the ebay categories are shown on the store landing page (accessed  by the store link) , but not on a listing, where...only 3 categories are shown.  I believe the change was made recently........

If one chooses making their own categories, seemingly all categories ARE shown on the listing....

Obviously, the truncated categories don't present the best information to buyers, nor are they an adequate representation of what's in the store......

I know you've said there is no new info about stores, tho someone IS working on them.....but can you find someone to pass this along to?  I like using the Ebay categories as I think it's "consistent"....but if they aren't shown in the most "seen" place.....a listing.......obviously, using them is to my detriment.

Below are screenshots of  1/store landing page.....2/listing page only showing 3 categories....3/listing page showing all self made categories.

Problem with Store Categories

Hello

i have a store and one category is totaly missing from it.

In seller hub i see my listings that i have on this category but in my store i don't even see the listings and my category at all.

For example i have a category WATCHES and i don't see them in my store.

Also i list 5 watches and i don't see them at all only in seller hub.

What is wrong? What i have to do?

I see five watches in your store -- four of them newly listed -- in the wristwatch category.

New items can take up to 24 hours to be indexed and appear in search; if you revise the item before it is listed, it goes to the back of the line.

If you do not see them, try refreshing the page while holding down the shift key; you may be seeing an old version of the page from your cache.

Problem with Store Categories

I had the same exact problem a few years ago except it was with store categories, not eBay categories- all showed on the storefront and only 4 showed on the listings. The eBay team said it was a known technical issue affecting only some users.

Trinton followed some troubleshooting steps on his end and did some kind of refresh which fixed the problem in an instant. Hopefully Brian can do the same for your account.

@dhbookds that's really weird. I'm not aware of a change or a tech issue, so I'll get this reported. Hopefully I'll know if it's intentional or a bug sometime this week. I'll let you know what I hear.

@dhbookds the Ebay Category and Store Category option is in  the 'Edit Store' setting on the manage my store page. Will you check that to see if it's set to store or eBay and see if changing it fixed this?

It was set to ebay categories.....and showed the same (3) categories.

I changed to store categories and the side categories disappeared completely......

Problem with Store Categories

Don’t waste your time creating store categories.  It’s a waste of time and has little to no sales results from them.  In fact, don’t spend time customizing your store at all.

A couple years ago, I went through eBay’s Sellers Boot Camp to see if I could learn something new.  In the week we got to SEO and reviewing traffic and impression reports, I noticed that for both my stores, I received little to no traffic from buyers looking at my store.  I posed this question to eBay multiple times as to why, and never received a response.  Many sellers reported the same issue at the time.

The problem is eBay makes it too easy to search the category rather than keeping the buyer within the store.  Buyers tend to click on a sellers “other items” of which does not enter the store thus keeping the default categories.

Since then, eBay has since depreciated the reporting of store traffic and impressions and are no longer available.  So, a rule of SEO, if it’s not measured, why waste time working on it when you can’t measure your efforts.  it may look pretty, but if no one comes to your store, why do it? Just saying.

Problem with Store Categories

Larry.........understand that I'm not advocating either store/ebay categories.......

What gripes me is what shows ON A LISTING.......that side panel that you have showing the categories (whichever a seller decides to use)........mine are showing 2 categories plus Other..... that's prime real estate going almost to waste.  No matter if most buyers don't use it........they still should show......
