“Only secure content is displayed”

Why aren't all of your pages secure eBay????  I constantly get this message in IE 11.

Why should I have to change my settings and make my computer vunerable to viruses and hacking  to display unsecured content from your website.  I am tired of getting these messages.  FIX YOUR SOFTWARE EBAY!

Change the channel!

Re: “Only secure content is displayed” - what is eBay doing about their site?

I agree, this is annoying and unsecure too. Same issue in Edge browser in Windows 10.

eBay must fix it. The only question - do they even read this forum?

Perhaps they should find who is the developer who did this mess...

I constantly get this message in IE 11.

and I never get it in Firefox??????????

so is it an ebay problem or an IE11 problem...........

I also run virus/malware stuff..........so I'm confident the pages are OK......

There have always been numerous reports about problems with IE..........just saying.......

Re: “Only secure content is displayed” - what is eBay doing about their site?

It's not Edge's fault, it's not IE 11's fault, and it "sort of" is not eBay's fault.

It is the ads on the pages.  Any site that has ads that are not secure while the page is will give that popup.  eBay has AdChoices ads and those images are not normally served from a secure url, hince the warning.  When eBay serves their own ads, like for their Credit Card, that is coming from eBay's site and is secure (so far for me anyway).

If you want to get rid of them for IE, get an addon like AdBlock Plus.  That program will work on Firefox, Chrome, IE, and I am sure a lot more browsers.  Bad thing is that, as of the time of this post, they still don't have a version for Edge.  😞  For you windows 10 users, 10 still has IE installed that you can use if you want.  Even without an ad blocking addon, IE will let you change the internet options as someone already mentioned here.

I just want to say too that this is really really annoying.

I spent 2 hours trying to get rid of this pop up to no avail.

It will stop me from using ebay. Very frustrating indeed.

Re: “Only secure content is displayed” - what is eBay doing about their site?

This is ridiculous - I just received the email below from eBay.  Now there's one line in particular I don't understand - "We have partnered with i-ways to implement an eBay sign-in that protects your full inventory from being available publicly. ".  What does that mean, if my pages have unsecure content, they will not be visible to the public?  Part 2 - eBay is saying any unsecure content must be removed yet they are guilty of this themselves?  What is eBay going to do about THEIR unsecure content?  not allow us to print shipping labels or see our home page? Snippet of mail received from eBay:  Starting in October 2017, Google Chrome—the browser used by almost half of all eBay buyers—will begin displaying the message "Not Secure" in the address bar when users visit standard HTTP pages or HTTPS pages that include non-secure HTTP content.

You have listings that contain or link to HTTP content, and we encourage you to remove this content from your listings immediately. If you're not sure which of your listings contain HTTP content, you can use the i-ways tool to identify them. We have partnered with i-ways to implement an eBay sign-in that protects your full inventory from being available publicly.

What is eBay doing to help?
We believe that the "Not Secure" message may deter buyers from purchasing and impact your conversion rate. To prevent the "Not Secure" message from appearing, we're changing the desktop buying experience starting this October. Listings that contain or link to HTTP content after that time will have one-click item descriptions—a snippet of the description will be visible, and buyers will have to click to see the full description. The mobile experience will remain unchanged.

If you prefer for the full item description to display in your listings, we recommend that you update your listings and remove HTTP content before October.

Re: “Only secure content is displayed” - what is eBay doing about their site?

aaaand, their partner site from Germany has a malformed registration page that doesn't show you there is a field for you to enter a username, much less saying it is supposed to be an email address.  You only know if you happen to put page focus on the white space above the password fields.  Or if you enter the passwords and then try to submit and your message is returned saying a valid email address is required.  We're supposed to trust these people with combing through our listings to look for embedded http links?  They can't even design a registration page! By the way the only embedded unsecure content I have on my listings  is a link to view my other items for sale, which is an ebay page.  URL copied from their own link.  I guess it's old now since when I click on the 'see seller's other items' it now comes up as https, but when I click through an item to view it's HTTP!!! I am not in control of this, are all my listings (and eveyone else's) just going to disappear in October?  By the way - in my real 9-5 life, I am a software QA testing professional.  I've reported dozens of bugs to eBay over the years.  This is ridiculous thaty they want us to police for content whey THEY are displaying our content unsecurely.  iways.jpg

Re: “Only secure content is displayed” - what is eBay doing about their site?

Not to mention that after going through their hard to understand registration process, once I log in to have their 3rd party check my listings, I get 'the page cannot be displayed' error.  Tried 5 times.  It is not working.

Re: “Only secure content is displayed” - what is eBay doing about their site?

Had same problem, using a bookmark for ebay. Deleted the bookmark, then made a new bookmark for ebay, and pop-up is gone. I think this is typical of bookmarks that have been there for a certain period of time, and has nothing to do with ebay. I have got that pop-up with other sites I had bookmarked, and started adding up the evidence. Refreshed the book mark after deleting the old one, seems to work. Hope this helps.
