Not able to update account information

My state added a new area code, last year in August 2024. I recently received a new phone number, with the updated area code and tried to update my account info and ebay will not except the phone number. I called and spoke with an ebay associate, with no success in adding the phone number. Am I supposed to cancel my 13 yr old account and try to start all over, just because my state added a new area code and ebay's software is not updated to it? Somehow or another, I would think there would be a way to add this new phone number to my existing account, without so much trouble from my end.

As long as it's not interfering with your login security or ability to make purchases, I would just wait it out. 

It doesn't look like you're a seller, so ID verification should be irrelevant. I don't think my phone number has ever actually come into play as a buyer.

If you're using 2-step verification to sign-in, make sure you're using a method other than text message, which I believe is the only method that relies on your actual phone number.
