New Tab Whack-A-Mole

I'm using Chrome for Windows. Every time I click on an item to look at, it opens as a new tab.  How do I make this stop?

From your search results page, click on the icon in the upper right corner that allows you to switch between List or Gallery view and choose the "Customize" option.

From the resulting menu, you should have the option of choosing whether search results open in a new tab or the same tab.

Re: New Tab Whack-A-Mole

Thank you.

Why is "new tab" the default option? Certainly, nobody wants to shop and keep clicking on tabs.

It's my preference to have listings open in a new tab when I shop. Always. New tabs open in the background and I can keep scrolling down my search results uninterrupted. When I'm done browsing I review all the listings I opened.

Re: New Tab Whack-A-Mole

Now, how do I get it to stop opening new tabs when I click on "similar items" below?

Click on "same tab" in that menu and "Apply changes".

Re: New Tab Whack-A-Mole

That's your preference, but I don't want to have 30 or 40 open tabs when I'm done shopping.
