Why does ebay keep opening new tabs chrome and microsoft edge - how can I stop it as I now have about 20 tabs open

It's typically a browser setting, but if it suddenly started happening with 2 browsers then you might have malware on your system. Read this page for some tips @annmariebetts7884.

If you mean that search results are opening in a new tab when you click on item listings, there is a setting in your search results customization menu you can change to prevent that.

From the search results, click on the "customize" link in the upper right where you can choose between list and gallery view:

From there you should see some options:

Change the setting to "Open item page" in "Same tab" to prevent new tabs from opening.

They have removed this option now, it seems ebay are hell bent on making our lives more annoying...

The option to open links in a new tab or same tab still appears for me when using that Customize menu.

It is always possible that eBay is testing something with certain accounts, though, or that I am not seeing the change for some other reason just yet.

It might be worth trying to change that Customize setting using a different browser to rule out a browser issue.
