Also, why is there no appropriate forum category for this type of question? It's not really a technical issue or problem and none of the other selections apply, unless I'm missing something and am way off base here.

@Anonymous We keep archive content indefinitely. This is so user metrics like, number of posts, likes, etc. remain. If we deleted the content, these metrics would be removed.
Once an item is archived only eBay can access it.
You can always ask questions like this during the weekly chat with staff or post it in the Share Community platform Feedback

My question was regarding user to user messages between buyer and sellers, not forum messages.

This has been a problem for me as I was operating under the impression that archive meant archive.
Ebay deletes all my old messages including the archived ones after 2 or 3 months.
I started putting any important messages into the archive folder and then using the "Save your messages" function to download to my computer once a month.

Why does ebay delete old user to user messages between buyers and sellers even the ones that are in the archive folder?
