Ebay search issues

When I do a search, sometimes at the bottom, all the page numbers are gone to go to the next page. I'm using the default search configuration, 50 items per page but can't get past the first page. Refresh and it works a couple times and then page numbers disappear again. Also sometimes the refine tabs do not work, no drop down for item condition, etc. Does the same on different computers and different version of Chrome.  Is this a Ebay problem or browser problem?

Glad to hear the /dsc/ search is working for you.

I do not know why eBay has two different searches or what the distinction between them is. Or why some searches wind up with one format and some with the other.

If you are having difficulty getting a /dsc/ search on one device, try a simple test search. If you get an /sch/ search URL, manually edit the URL to be a /dsc/ search, hit enter to load the page and then bookmark the new search results page.

If you use the bookmarked search as the basis for further searches, they should remain as the same type of search. Then you can try adding your various filters and keywords.

If drop-down menus are not working that is often a browser issue; the best way to tell is to try another updated browser such as Firefox to see if the issue happens in that browser as well. If things work OK in the second browser, return to your original Chrome browser and try deleting your browser cache -- "cached images and files" -- under "Clear browsing data" (use "for all time" if that is an option) and possibly delete your individual eBay cookies. Also make sure you are using the latest version of your browser.

In some cases when searching you may see a large number of results at the top of the page, but no link to page 2 or beyond. That can happen if some of the results found are multiple variation listings -- the kind with a drop-down that lets you choose product color, size or type. Each variation counts as a separate result, even if the listing itself only appears once in the search results. So the number at the top of the page may not correspond to the number of listings shown.

Re: Ebay search issues

No page numbers at the bottom for me either.  Tried Firefox and Brave, both the same.  Temp work around is to add "_pgn=2" to the end of the search result URL. (change the"2" to what page of search results you want _pgn=3,_pgn=4,etc )

In some cases, the inability to reach page two might be a problem if you have many search terms, search exclusions or excluded sellers; if the page URL gets too long, some terms at the end do not get evaluated properly, and the page number is usually one of those last terms. If you have many exclusion terms, try dropping a few and see if that lets you navigate to page two.

Re: Ebay search issues

Sometimes I can make it to page 2 or 3 before it happens, it just seems random and the drop down stops working at the same time. I'll try clearing cookies and  complete history. I have cleared it but only 24hrs worth.

eBay's search URLs have some odd quirks -- one of them is that a search URL contains all the search terms and exclusions of the current search, but also may include the terms and exclusions from the previous search. In practice, this means that if you try a long URL search after a short URL search (with few terms or exclusions), the long URL search may work fine, but if you try a long URL search after another long URL search, the search may fail. Hence going from page one to page two of a long URL search is much more likely to fail.

A search for the term test may contain the following terms in the URL:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=test&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0

Note the _nkw=test term which corresponds to the keyword.

If you run the exact same search again, the URL may contain the following terms

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=test&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=test

The keyword and category terms are mirrored; the _osacat and _odkw refer to the previous search category and keywords, which you can see if you change the search term or category and search again.

I am not sure why eBay chose to set up their searches that way; as far as I can tell, you can delete all the terms that correspond to the previous search without affecting the results at all. The terms may have some use to eBay internally for diagnostic or statistical data gathering purposes.

Re: Ebay search issues

For me the issue seems to be with the min/max price exclusion.

This search works fine:

Adding the price range may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

There does appear to be a problem with adding price limits to certain searches, regardless of the absolute length. There may be a difference between two different types of searches -- one search URL starts with ebay.com/sch/ and the other starts with ebay.com/dsc/ -- the former seems to have a problem, and the latter seems to work, at least with the couple of searches I have tried. Unfortunately the search URL syntax is slightly different for each search, so it is not as simple as changing those three letters in your search URL.

As shown, your search will find items that have any single letter in the title or item specifics in the Home & Garden category, minus tapestry and bedsheet. If you are trying to search the entire category rather than items that contain single letter terms in the title, try this search instead:

https://www.ebay.com/dsc/Home-Garden/11700/i.html?_ftrt=901&LH_Auction=1&_dmd=1&_udhi=3&_mPrRngCbx=1...

Unlike letters, a single number will match any number that starts with that number, so this should find more matches for you, particularly since most items should contain a number somewhere in the item specifics.

Re: Ebay search issues

You are most welcome!

It might be worth trying to change the /sch/ to /dsc/ in the search URL -- that has worked on several searches I have tested. If you have a search bookmarked or saved that does not reach page two, give it a try to see if it helps.

Re: Ebay search issues

I have a lot of saved searches and none of the will show the 2nd page. I've discovered if I take out the price qualifier the 2nd page will show, but what a pain! I now have to look at items I don't want to see. And even new searches won't work. PLEASE GET THIS FIXED!

Re: Ebay search issues

Same issues for me when I search in safari on an iPad.  No page numbers, so can only see first 50 items when there are 1000+ results.  Using eBay.co.uk

Modified address url at top of page to be .com pressed refresh and search OK, albeit different items.  This is a eBay.co.uk search issue only!!

Issue is also not letting me select categories correctly and drop down option to change from best match is not working.

Re: Ebay search issues

Thanks for the tips. Changing the search URL to /dsc/ makes it work perfectly.  I have cleared all browser history, cookies, etc. Tried an updated browser on another device and still does it with the /sch/ URL. I've tried clearing my search in eBay but can't seem to completely remove search history. It's eBay motors US that I'm using. Seems to happen when I select item condition used with the /sch/ URL, page numbers and actually everything below that dissapear and drop downs stop working.
