Combined Shipping?

Am selling some pieces of a china pattern individually.  Have stated that I will combine shipping on multiple buys.  Buyer wants an item from two different listings.  It won't let them check out unless they pay the shipping shown which is probably shipped separately.  Anyone run into this?  Below is part of buyers email. Initially I told buyer not to pay until I sent invoiced for combined shipping.  When they went to checkout this is what happened. 

"I pay through paypal and after I choose “buy it now” paypal immediately totals payment and then they want you to “confirm and pay” and then there is nothing that can be changed"

You could alway take both items and make a new listing just for this buyer.

Figure the shipping on both items for the listing OR

Take the immediate payment off the “buy it now” for those 2 items..

Are these your buy now items or auction items with buy ow options. If they are auctions the buyer may have to bid and wait for the auction to end or you may need to end the listings and relist them as true buy now items. I think if items are auctions with a buy now option immediate payment is required because while waiting on a invoice another  buyer could bid on the auction so the buyer has to commit to buying the item which is probably the issue.

Most buyers cannot grasp the use of the cart. If items were put in the cart and the buyer views their cart, they can request total before making payment. For Auctions if mutually agreed between buyer and seller, the buyer can place bids and the seller can end auction early.

Some of this sellers buy now items are auction items with a buy now option. I believe this could be the reason the buyer can not add the items to a cart. I think auction items with buy now options have to be purchased individually as the buyer has to commit to buying the item. The seller should find out what the items are the buyer is having issues with. Then if these are auction items with a buy now option. They will need to end the listings and relist them as GTC buy now items or the buyer will have to pay full price up front for the shipping. Then after the label is purchased the seller can issue a partial refund through paypal for the difference in shipping cost.

It is not always that the buyers don't try to request a total. I thought the same thing for a while, but kept having buyers ask how they can combine shipping. 

I even tested it myself, I put two items from my store ID into my cart on this ID. If you try to click request total it says you can't request total on items with immediate payment required. I have also set up universal shipping rules on that ID that should automatically combine the shipping, but it is not combining it in the cart or at checkout.....

@rockinthe60s There's a number of limitations that eBay has put in place that make the Request Total non-functional in many situations.

1. If the seller has "Immediate Payment required" on any of the items
2. If all the items DON'T have "combined shipping allowed" checked in the listing
3. If any of the items has a seller promotional discount (ie buy 3 get 1 free, etc)
4. Items from more than one seller are in the cart.
5. Additional random failures on the part of eBay that disable the feature.

Multiple seller's have complained about these limits for years and eBay has refused to budge and loosen up the ability for buyers and sellers have the opportunity to agree on a a mutually agreeable price.

I found my problem on my store ID. I am having to bulk edit each listing to check the box in the shipping area that says to add this rule to that listing. 

After applying the rule I made a combined shipping sale on two immediate pay items through the cart. It charged buyer higher price shipping than added .50 for the second item..... 

Now if other factors effect them I don't know, but it worked that time....Yay Me....

I am having a very similar problem right now. A buyer has two items in her cart, but it will not let her request a combined total.  I do NOT have "IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED" on my listings, either. She said she was just talking to customer service, who basically told her that function is not available via her Apple Ebay app. So she has to wait until she gets home and get on her computer. What good are all these functions and apps, anyway, when they don't work or provide all the options they are supposed to?  I am guessing that since Ebay collects a percentage of our shipping costs, they are making it more difficult for shipping costs to be reduced.

BINGO!

Customers are telling me that it says I don't combine shipping, it's getting me some pretty heated messages. I've done everything I know to fix it, no one answers at ebay.
