Short story: if you list items under the "Everything Else > Adult Only" category(which is required for most adult only items), those items are not returned by the top-level search on the home page, even though it says "All Categories". Even if you select the "Everything Else" on that top-level search on the home page, Adult Only items are still not returned. In order to see these items on a desktop, you have to browse the categories to get to an adult-only category, log in, opt yourself in to the Adult-Only category Terms of Use, then search within that Adult Only category only. Things are even worse on mobile; I couldn't even figure out a way to browse to adult-only categories within the app.
This seems like broken functionality to me; most users are just going to search for what they want on the home page search form rather than drilling down through categories then searching. Since these adult categories are less visible, users are not finding these items and I guarantee that eBay is losing money on these lost transactions. I understand ebay has to do some sort of age verification for these items, but there are ways of handling this(e.g.: allowing a Adult-Only Terms of Use opt-in to be reflected as a permanent user preference, blurring out results from the search until the user logs in with their opt-in, etc.).
Please consider addressing this as a bug. Thank you.
