All clickable links on item page greyed out

I was interested in buying an item today but all of the clickable links on the item page were greyed out. I finally opened a new account and used it to buy the item and speak to a representative. The representative told me that it was a "glitch". After some time passed I was able to log in to my original account and had no further trouble. The rep would not admit to having done anything to rectify the problem, but did ask whether he had "solved" my problem.

At some point there was a strange notice on a page referring to eBay adopting some new AI system, but there were no details provided nor any context for what had been rolled out. I regret failing to get a screenshot with the notice.

I was irritated that I was expected to accept the excuse of a "glitch" being responsible for the problem. I have been using eBay since it first rolled out and I have never seen any system failure described as a "glitch" before. Are we going to be expected to tolerate random non-deterministic behavior from eBay in the future?

Creating a new account to make a purchase and contact eBay was certainly one way to get things done -- glad you were able to make that work.

Other alternatives worth considering when something is not working: trying another browser or another device, signing out and signing back in, or buying as a guest.

Absent indications that others were running into similar issues, it is possible that the problem was just a temporary issue, a local issue, or an issue with that particular listing.

That is curious -- I wonder if eBay might have been testing something new. Sometimes eBay rolls out tests to certain accounts. If that was the cause of the issue, perhaps creating a new account was a good way to get around the issue.

Oh it won't be limited to just eBay.

I concur. Slopping up eBay is relatively benign compared to the damage that's possible.
