A Possible Scam ...?

Today I got this email ....

eBay is claiming  *they* changed my password for me.

And to finalize it, they want me to login with my original password.

Then, once loggedin, change *it* and my secret questions.

This is a bad trick by naughty people to gain my original password.

I know companies send emails *asking* the user to change a password.

But I never heard of the companies *themselves* changing it.

Am I right in thinking this is a clumsy attempt at a scam?

Thank you.

I am with you on this I really don't think eBay would ever do that or send something saying they changed it.

send it to spoof@ebay.com

It is a scam. Ebay doesn't change peoples passwords.

The scammers are phishing for information to hijack your account.

You said it was an email, if you haven't already, do not click any links in that email. If you have, change your password by logging into your account, but never from an email, even if it looks authentic.

I agree with the other poster, forward the email to ebay.

"Am I right in thinking this is a clumsy attempt at a scam?"

Yes, more like a criminal attempt at identity theft.

You should probably enable the 2 step verification for both ebay and paypal.  This will require a security pin code to be sent to your cell phone to be entered when logging in after your password. Clearly you have been targeted for some reason. If someone does get your pass word they would have to have your phone to get the code to finish logging in. Also if you get sent the pin with out your request you will know something fishy is going on and you need to change your password.
