wgonzales - fix listing links

@wgonzales

I bulk scanned your listings in the Active Content Scanner and there are missing target attributes in some of your links. Additionally there are some bad links that we should remove.

I think you can take care of both problems using eBay's Bulk Edit And Replace (BEAR) tool.  We'll handle the chore in several passes.

In the first pass, put this phrase in the "Find" box in eBay's tool.

href="http://stores.ebay.com/Crystal-Street_W0QQsspagenameZL2QQtZkm" since="-1&sort=3&rows=50"

and put this in the "Replace" box:

href="http://stores.ebay.com/Crystal-Street_W0QQsspagenameZL2QQtZkm" target="_blank"

Since the tool only scans 200 items at a time, you'll run this scan on the first group and again on the second group. When that scan has finished, we can go to work on the next problem.

In the next problem, some of your listings have links to "Shipping", "Policies", and "back to top". They have all been corrupted by the listing editor to point to the listing editor, so we'll need to decide how to correct them.  Some examples are:

href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=301742696132#ShippingPayment"
href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=301742696132#vndlnkother"
href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=301742696132#cte_top"
href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=270792283862#cte_top"

HI,

Where is this eBay's Bulk Edit And Replace (BEAR) tool? And how do i get all the affected items into it?

I am not seeing a "find" or "replace" box on any links that i click.

@wgonzales

I'm sorry, I had planned to add this link and forgot.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Replacing-Active-Content/How-to-find-and-cope-with-Active-Content-tuto...

There is a tutorial thread on this forum that explains how to use BEAR, along with some screenshots that may differ slightly depending on whether you are using Seller hub.

Okay. I was able to figure that first part out with the help of the editing explanation.  267 listings went through fine.  An additonal 24 had other issues and were eliminated by the tool  from the edit process.

I know that some of these are old and have grandfathered photos of a smaller size than we now use. But when i do a new scan only 15 items now come up with issues.

So should we just proceed with the second part of this for now and not worry about those 15 (or 24)?

It looks like you have already corrected the links that got corrupted in the editor.  Only a few remain:

270792283862
301200876977
301742696132

This is how I was going to suggest a bulk edit, but this now seems a moot point. Nonetheless, it may be informative for others with a similar larger task.

We have two options for removing the second set of problem links: we can disable them using the BEAR tool or we can remove them using the Bulk Active Content Editor in conjunction with File Exchange.

I think we'll look at using BEAR.  This is that sample group:

href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=301742696132#ShippingPayment"
href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=301742696132#vndlnkother"
href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=301742696132#cte_top"
href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=270792283862#cte_top"

Because every listing is going to have a different code, we can't remove it cleanly using BEAR. What we'll do is disable the link feature entirely by breaking up the code that is there.  We'll take out the phrase that is common to all listings, and then convert the leftover (that we can't grab) to a title of no consequence.

In BEAR, find this text:

href="http://cgi5.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ReviseListing&itemid=

replace with this text:

title="

The link words will still exist, but will no longer be clickable.

I did the above for the smaller group of listings. A random look at a few shows there are still links on the item description that click. But now i am wondering if doing this and making clickable links unclickable will also disengage the "Please click here to visit our eBay Store
to see more outstanding crystals and minerals!"  If so, doesn it even make sense to do this at this point?
Thanks!

The links we are targeting point to eBay's "ReviseListing" page.  Your eBay store URL is correct and does not point to "ReviseListing", so it should not be affected by the filter you are using.

Let's fix your photos.

I scanned your listings here

http://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/ActiveContentScanner.htm

and copied the list of 11 items that fail, since you said they all failed to update due to undersized photos.

ItemID,Scan#,Site
270792283862,293,US
271110068245,284,US
271172388939,276,US
272391482648,92,US
300823680960,283,US
300840320349,279,US
300864015904,278,US
300879182502,275,US
302043468308,99,US
302087579819,91,US
302094148852,90,US

Then I pasted that list into the photo scanning tool.

http://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/ListingPhotoSizes.htm

Click *FILE EXCH CSV from the dropdown country list and paste the above list into the box that opens and click the "Use CSV list" button to start the scan.

The scan won't complete because it looks like I have to fix something on that tool, so click the AutoScan button to restart the scan.

That should get all the rows loaded.

If they don't all load, click the column number to the left of each of those rows that remains purple.

When the photos are all loaded, click the ENLARGE button at the bottom of the grid to build enlargements.

After the enlargements load, you can save them to your desktop and upload to your revisions. With the image sizes repaired, you should be able to continue with your other revisions.

The thumbnail images on that tools are clickable to see how the enlargement compares to the original.

Hi,

Nothing is happening with the scan tool in either method, just keeps going in a circle, but i will give it a try again later. Maybe my connection today.

Actually only 7 are undersized photos.

These 4:
302043468308,99,US
302087579819,91,US
302094148852,90,US
272391482648,92,US

 came up as some other photo issue with the bulk edit tool, but i couldn't figure out what it was, let alone how to fix it.

Thanks very much. I'll let you know if they load on a later attempt.

If you can get the scan tool working, it can produce 500 px enlargements that you can use in your listings to make the photos compliant. Or, you can re-photograph those items at a larger size so that your listings can take advantage of either supersize (640 px master required) or zoom (800 px master required).

Alternatively, this tool can provide the 500 px enlargements for one listing at a time, since you have so few.

I must apologize to you for not following up to thank you for all your personal help with this project.

Life just happened and those last few listings just got left by the wayside.  I will probably continue to  leave them be for now, or eventually close them as they are older.  If time allows i may also follow up with the last batch of instructions.
I just want to be sure to tell you (at last!) how grateful I am for your help.  I never could have done it without you.

Happy New Year!
