randomly being asked to update my account details

I've never had an issue before but now all of a sudden I got a notice from ebay asking me to update my account info. It's requesting that I go through the process of verifying my bank account. I don't understand why because I've been selling for years without any issues with the same bank account that I previously have verified. Makes no sense.

So now my payments are on hold until I go through the tiresome microdeposit process.

Any reason for this?

Have you verified that account for managed payments?

I don't remember doing so specifically for when ebay took over managed payments. But what's the point of an additional verification process when I already did it on initial setup of the bank account?

That's how it works. They want proof of who you are and to verify that checking account. You either do it or you don't get to sell.

Question, I understand the concept.  It keeps asking me to verify the two microdeposits I received before I can get paid, but I cant get paid until I update my account... what I am missing?

Looking at your feedback , it appears that you took a break for 6 months. It seems when any of us do that, they just double check that nothing has changed.
